Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

Wow! I saw about 5 black squirrels on my walk to the pond this morning. Then 4 more while there.

I'm in Canada and we have black, grey and brown ones here. They drive my boy crazy. His prey drive kicks in fast with them. Sugar looks up in trees on our walks for them!!

The other day looked out of the kitchen window and saw a Red Tailed Hawk sitting in the grass. He/she was eating something, was able to grab a shot, not very good quality, but you can see it's a snake. Probably Gopher snake, as doesn't have the markings of a Garter snake, and too chilly for Rattlers to be out yet.

Speaking of a snack... Rubie found this in the backyard today. I feel like there have a been a few examples over the years of either headless bunny bodies or, much to Rubie's delight, a bodyless bunny head. What would kill them and just worry about the head and leave everything else behind?

I'll keep the picture as a thumbnail for anyone sensitive.

We do have coyotes, foxes, owls, hawks that would take down a bunny. I would think a bird could fly off with it. I've seen foxes run straight through the opening in our fence but perhaps a coyote or fox could get inside the yard wit out it but not out with it?

Looks like she was digging a nest in our yard about 10 ft from where she was left so honestly... fine.

If the rabbit is fairly large, a hawk or owl would not be able to fly with it and they do often eat the head, for whatever reason... 🙄 Fox and coyote I'd think would carry it away. I did see an amusing video of a fox pulling its catch through a narrow slatted fence. I'll see if I can find it, pretty sure it was YouTube.

I had a 3rd chicken killed a couple of weeks ago and all the answers from the chicken experts said hawk. It was mostly intact but all the meat had been eaten from the beak to the base of the neck. A pretty gross thing to see, the feathered body with a skeleton neck and skull. But the experts agreed that raptors will often do that.
