Backyard Birds

Yesterday was the first time that either one of us has ever seen a Red Headed Woodpecker around here and it was back this morning so I caught a few pics. I read that they're nearing the endangered list because so much of their habitat is being destroyed so I hope they stick around here where we leave it intact.
Haha, love it! I've taken video of bird sounds too. Recently it's been of the Northern Mockingbird. He's one of my favorites. Very pretty, first of all. But I love all the different sounds he makes all at once lol he just goes on and on and on. And he just seems so happy! While he's 'saying' all these different variations, sometimes he will jump in the air, flap his wings and come down! It's really cute. 
When I walk the dogs I find him on the top of the trees in the back, carrying on with all kinds of different sounds. I should post some of them. I just haven't had the chance.

There is another one that always has a certain type of whistle and I just found out this year that it is the barn swallow. They were in our barn chasing one another when I heard them make the sound. And I thought aha! There it is! Mystery solved.
Then the other day I was on the deck waiting for the dogs to come in when Gray Catbird landed by the bird feeders. I was very surprised because I haven't seen one here yet. I've heard them every once in a while but it was the first time I saw one. Not a very good picture but I had to be quick LOL
I always remember my neighbor who lost her cat back where we used to live. She came down to my house to talk to me about it and thought she heard the cat in my tree. I told her no, that's the catbird. She didn't believe me LOL she kept saying no, that's my cat, that's my cat! I had to show her the bird and she was finally convinced! But at times it really does sound like a cat up a tree.

I haven't gotten pictures since it's been raining all weekend, but our suet feeder (real solid beef fat) has attracted mommas and babies. The mommas get the fat and feed it to the open beaked and begging babies. So cute! I feel bad for the starling mom though. She has quite the hungry and demanding brood!
Oh I know! I took a short video of a wood pecker feeding baby suet a couple days ago but haven't uploaded it to YouTube yet. I see so many different kinds of birds stuffing as much suet in their beaks as they can, then flying off with it that you know they're bringing it to their babies.
It sort of does but I don't have a clue either. Interesting!

Maybe, unfortunately my pic isn't that great and it was fluffing itself so it was difficult to get a head on pic but it had more of black rings around its eyes. Probably in that category though.
I thought of this when I was watching TV back on June 20th and saw this. Probably not your bird but it was pretty close!

I don't know if you feed suet but they love that. They come to the suet feeders on the deck many times per day.
Oh, yea, I usually have suet out there (and many in my freezer
) I don't usually see these big guys on the suet though. Mostly the Nuthatch or Chickadees. Or Grosbeak.
