Kali's heart murmur

Aww poor little girl... I know my human cardiologist told me that some of the meds can have sort of a bad effect when you first start taking them, but it should get better in 3 or 4 weeks, which they did.
Prayers sent that she starts feeling a little better.

So I woke Kali up to take her outside. She hadn't been out for a while and I knew it had to be about time. So I carried her out and she piddled and we walked around for a little bit. It's 27° so I thought maybe she would poop out here. But she walked around, very slowly, and never did anything else. And her feet were getting cold. So I picked her up and brought her back in the laundry room. No sooner I took off my coat gloves, hat and boots and she had thrown up and pooped. 🥺 I cleaned everything up and set it up like I had before and she's back sleeping. But she certainly does not look good. Poor thing.

So sorry to hear Kali isn't feeling well now. Can the vet prescribe an appetite stimulant and/or anti-nausea medication? Hugs to you both during this difficult time.

Well at the moment I can't even get food down her. I can't imagine getting a pill down her. Another pill. Crazy isn't it? They give you one pill and then they got to give you another pill for something that the first pill created? Crazy.

Praying for you guys. I hope a balance of meds and doses can be found that works well for Kali, the poor little lady.

Well, an update on Kali... The coughing has virtually been eliminated but I think the side effects from the pills that she's on are finally shining through.😕😕

Yesterday I actually didn't think she pooped all day so I was a little concerned about that. Well, this morning she made up for it.🙄 She pooped on the pee pads, on the floor, on her bed and on herself. Yeah, real mess. I took both dogs outside to potty, fed them and then put her in her crate while I cleaned everything up in the laundry room. Then I went out and took care of the horses. When I came back I had to give her a bath! She's stunk! I towel dried her and then put a heater in the laundry room while she slept and air dried. 😁

The rest of the day she seemed fine. A little lethargic but that's one of the side effects too. 🤷‍♀️

So about 7:15 tonight my husband and I go out to the barn to take care of the horses. When we came back in I went to check on Kali and OMG! It was this morning all over again! It was a mess ! Back to work! Cleaned up all the pee pads and floor. Luckily she didn't get herself that bad and I only got one spot on her bed. So I threw the bed in the washing machine. This morning I had to throw away the one that was pooped on! It was so bad I didn't even want to deal with it. I had three of these calming beds. The last one I bought on sale "just because" and now I'm glad I did. :thumbsup2:

Tonight she just had a little spot with poop on it so I got that off and threw it in the washing machine, cleaned up all the stuff on the floor and this time I did it a little differently. 😉 When I put the pee pads down I taped them together and taped it to the floor! 😏 She was moving them when she was pooping and getting it on the floor. So I figured this way they all should stay together and hopefully not create such a mess if it happens again. Diarrhea is a side effect so I'm thinking I'm in for more. 😖

I'm actually thinking about skipping a day of the medicine to see if that helps a bit. She doesn't have diarrhea very often usually . So this is different .

So the laundry room is her new home.

It actually works out quite well. As you can see I can cover the floor, she can have access to water, I have a sink in there, the washing machines are in there, she's close to the active part of the house and its big enough for her to walk around. And she sleeps all day anyway. So she seems quite content in there.

I hope we can balance out the effects of the pills and the good part about the pills. Which is keeping her from coughing.
Might be a half tab would be sufficient daily, instead of intermittent whole one now that cough is in control. Vet might agree?

Well she was already on half a tab. If anything I would try cutting it in fourths. But I'm having trouble getting her to eat anything this morning.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Poor Kali. I just made noddles those worked for some reason.
Praying for Kali and you guys ❤️

You can try putting a few drops of Karo syrup rubbed on her gums. This will boost her blood sugar and help with appetite. We do this for neonate puppies that are struggling but need to keep their energy up so they feel well enough to eat. This is obviously a temporary solution but anything to help at this point until you can speak with your vet again. Thinking of you and Kali.

Oh no, I'm so very sorry. :sorrow:
She had the best possible life with you and now she's running free with Buddy and the rest of our beloved dogs.
