Critters and wildlife in your area - post your pics

Those look like baby rabbits....in IL they made nests in the middle of our yard constantly! Our boy Dallas would gobble them up :(. One time he came in the house with one of those tiny feet hanging out of his mouth...our female was following him around sniffing his mouth...that is how I figured out he had brought it in!

Hunting mice, pocket gophers, or ground squirrels...we have all three in area.

This singleton was aware of Bonnie and I, but as we stayed far back, was unafraid. He moved on as we moved up, tangentially on our walk, ON leash...Bonnie is quite interested in getting closer but I don't allow it.

There is a den with pups close by and I want to respect that. We can co-exist.

There are ground squirrels some mistake them for gophers
We've never seen ground squirrels here, but lots of gophers! This property was just a prairie when we bought it to build our home. And the land was dotted with gopher mounds! Moles too. But the gophers did the most damage. Huge mounds all over. I went on a rampage about 12 years ago and got 14 the first year. About half that the next year. And the third year, about 3. After that, we haven't seen one! It's amazing. We still have moles but not as many as we've had. More activity on the grounds helps keep them away. I think I only got one mole last year. This year I've seen a few Telltale trails around so I'll be on the hunt again.:bat:

And it's easy to tell the difference between the ground squirrels and the Gophers. Just look at their tails.

Our Lola has a high prey drive and prefers to stalk critters rather than bark, like Neo does. Lola has detected and alerted to a few coral snakes on our walks and even found one on agility training field!

Here's a sequel to the short video I posted in this thread back in March, where Lola is fascinated by a Texas Spiny lizard we call Larry. Every day when I take Lola out to get the mail we look around for Larry, who's either on a tree or a rock or stone in the sun. His camouflage perfectly blends in with our live oak tree's bark.

Squirrels- As all you Doberman owners know, squirrel control is one of the primary missions of our Dobes! (in their view)
I'll let this squirrel video compilation speak for itself...

These are great videos. "Larry the lizard" lol.
Yes, the gophers...they.must.be.dug.up.Dad!!!

Dang, I deleted all the photos by accident, had 6 bucks in the yard, all with fuzzy little stubs on their heads. Have a video of a danged bear tearing down my trail camera, stupid bears. He tore down 2 cameras, one he broke the thingys that hold the strap, and put holes in the back. I'll use some hot glue to cover those holes, camera still works, will just have to strap it to the tree differently.

My little black squirrel is being seen more and more! All these years we've been here and the last couple of years is the first we've seen these black squirrels. My sister had them and she was only about 5 minutes away from me. The only other time I ever saw them was when we were in Colorado. I thought they were very different and I'm kind of excited to have them here now. I looked out the window and you can't miss him when he's hanging on a tree like this! :spit:

I saw one black squirrel in town some years ago. People figured it was a mutation of the grey squirrel but I have no idea.
