Sez Schnauzers moved up 5 after their Westminister win in 2024...

So "follow" or bookmark this for next year:
And lets see then how many spots Dobes move up, after a dobe Best In Show this year.

Dobes do not cross well with other breeds but the cute mixes and clever names with the Frechies could be endless. How exciting! (sarc)
My favorite local breeder sold Cha wa wa's...she must have taken the hooked on phonics course.
She would stand by the road holding a pup and a sign.

I have hopes that the Doberman size is a turn off to a lot of people who are not actually interested in a Doberman and just want the trending dog breed. Small dogs (frenchies) are easier to house for people who don’t really want a dog and they’re also easier to rehome without clogging up rescues too much. Even with behavioral issues, they’re just so “cute.” Dobermans are hopefully intimidating enough to deter a lot of the trend-following types.

Of course, giant schnauzers are huge too. But I do think we will see less of an increase in popularity than a toy/small breed would see if they won.

If Dobermans naturally had the standing, pointy ears and the very short tail like a C&D Dobe, I think their popularity would be lower; but because John Q.Public has no stomach or desire for cropping and docking, the floppy-eared, long tailed, Dobe is a lot more appealing to the normies.

It's interesting, the notion of popularity. Except for around here (Cincinnati) I rarely saw a Doberman. I knew they were not "rare," but still not at al common. In fact, I have heard it said to me many times "You don't see many Dobermans around anymore," All that said, they've been hovering around the mid-teens on the AKC popularity list for a long time.

As I spent over five years researching and soul searching as to which breed to get next (I am on a Dobervacation). one of the things I looked at over and over as I considered many other medium-large breeds was the AKC popularity list. I want a dog that is as far down on that list as possible. So, breeds such as the Black Russian Terrier, the Boerboel, the American Akita, the Dogo Argentino fit the bill in that regard. The Cane Corso did not, as it has been rising pretty fast in popularity for several years. It is also quite popular with a certain demographic to which I certainly do not belong. The same is true of the Presa Canario and of course the Rottweiler.

And that's their option if they will be a responsible owner but the anti C/D people came out of the woodwork after Penny won because the owner allowed that barbaric act.

I like the BRTs. The trainer of the IGP club I was in said he wouldn't touch them though--way too sharp. But I had an FB acquaintance who had one and they loved her! She was great w/ them and w/ their horses, but reserved w/ strangers. Just like you'd want them to be.

"C/D people..." was that on Fakebook and IG?
I dont use those platforms (out of moral principle), so another benefit is I missed all that drama..;)

I don't either. I can't stand the snoring and wheezing, and I don't think they are cute. Probably at the bottom of my list.
I meet lots of people with dogs at dog parks beaches trails and HomeDepotDogpark and when out-and-about in town. I like to talk dog, and watch closely. Learn something new everyday.

Here in Socal we see a LOT of designer dogs, and what Embark calls "Mexican Street Dogs" partly due the Covid crush, and I see a lot of younger folk with the latest "influencer fad dogs..." some better trained others not...

My personal nicknames for French Bulldogs is "bomb dog" cuz while most are sweet you never know when one will go "kaboom" and attack viciously.

Is that a breed thing or over breeding?

I've never seen a Frenchy attack anything other than food. Other bully breeds, but never a Frenchy. If you're seeing this in dog parks, I'd have to guess really bad breeding. Also, assuming you are talking about them attacking dogs, not people?

OMG! I would walk around paranoid my dog was gonna die at any minute! Just the thought of having to listen to a living being struggle that much to breathe would give me nightmares! That's a HORRIBLE sound!
I have show friends that breed beautiful pugs and frenchies and they don't struggle breathing or are loud when it is hot and they are panting. I know the French Bulldog standard has a requirement for their nares to be broad. I think its a BYB issue for sure.
