Random Pet Photo of the Day - 2024

I am seeing a handful of Dobes here lately that do this "splat" lay. I know @Gelcoater 's Daisy would do this or something similar. But is this a trend in the breed or what?
I don't ever remember Buddy doing that, but my husband says he did. I think he's wrong.:D

He never laid on his back either. I think the 'splay' and laying on their backs are a sign of being relaxed like @JanS said. Or maybe it's just the youngsters that do it the most?

She’s so cute!!! These photos are too darn adorable of her 🥰

Pepper does the splay, but not often, and I wish it were more often! I love it!!!

Definitely always giving up her belly lol that’s her move hope she doesn’t change that.

Thor did the sploots his entire life. he also sat with what his trainer called the "turkey leg". He would fold his whole rear leg under himself then do a perfect sit. I will sift for a pic of it over the next few days.

took me until 3 weeks before Zastava moved in to even see Katyusha's belly. She was kind of a hard ass as a puppy.

I have seen the above-referenced position (laying belly down with hind legs back behind) called "the splat," but I just searched it, and am seeing it more often called "the superman."

Could be related: Asha only did the splat a few times as a puppy, maybe last time I saw it was around 8 or 9 months. She never ever sleeps belly-up. She has been serious all her life and it spills over even into her relax time. That said, her signature of relaxed is her crossed paws and she does that ALL the time. She found a way to relax but stay at the ready and not be vulnerable.
