I absolutely detest barbed wire and wish it would be outlawed everywhere. Around here they used to use it for property boundary lines back in the early 1900's so once in a while we still come across some buried under the dirt.

Yes! That must have been the same here because when we were clearing this land to build we found some barbed wire too. I was rather upset wanting to get rid of it as quickly as possible and be sure that we got it all! I don't like that stuff either. And it kills me when I see horses corralled with barbed wire.

Zastava got posted up today. I posted Katyusha, but it was a hot minute ago and I knew I didn't want to use the same method on Z-pup, so I took the breeder up on her offer to do the first posting and teach what she does. I liked what she did with z-pup, but might change it a little to use backer rod rather than tampons moving forward. In all, a great day!

The breeder said that it can help with keeping claws from contacting the part of the ear it covers. I couldn't really fight with her rationale, but I've seen more postings without it than with it.

That's totally up to you but it's always seemed like overkill to me and one more thing the pup has on/under their head.

I think it can go at anytime. After 24 hours she's shown herself to not be bothered much and certainly isn't a scratcher at them. So I do agree it's one less thing if it's gone. Thanks for helping me think that thru a little

You’ll get back in the swing of it- lots of trial and error with it tbh. The only thing you can really do wrong is to tape too tight.

Backer rod down to bottom of bell
Tape loosely then squeeze tape on ear
Lots of play and distracting afterwards

Oh yeah- you have to figure out what you’re gonna use to get the tape off so you don’t pull out her ear hairs.

That's a go to for many people and it smells much better than Unisolve.

So thinking about changing posts tonight. How is the adhesive solvent best used? like a Q-tip soaked in it and rubbed along where the tape is peeling from? Do I have to clean the solvent off her ears with anything special to get the new tape to stick? I will be using Zonas tape for the new posts. Any experiences shared will be appreciated.

This is how I do it and it works well.

Next you will apply the Uni-solve to all of the tape on the back side of the ears and let it soak in using a cotton ball to prevent it from running down the dogs ears where it doesn’t belong.

Now it’s time to gently insert the scissors between the tape and the ears making sure the scissors clear all skin so you don’t nick them, which is very easy after the tape is loosened from the adhesive remover. I make sure the scissors come all the way through and you can see the top of them before cutting.

Looking good! I would get rid of the center brace since it's a shorter crop. And maybe use narrower tape so the whole ear isn't covered.

Just a few concerns/advice: I'm confused why her ears look like they are laying back behind her head? I also feel like the ear with the fur side is laying on top of the posts and the fur side is pointing towards the sky?

Pull her ears straight up above the top of her head like |_| and don't roll the ear around the post. Hold ear straight up and stick post in, pushing post down in the ear canal while you pull up on the ear. Press the ear to the post then apply tape. Don't rotate the ear. The fur sides should be facing the middle of her head and directly across one another with the skin side of the ear facing out.

The bridge is a hair too tight and making a slight pocket already on her right ear.


I use rubbing alcohol to strip any remaining adhesive remover off. Her ears are very short so you shouldn't have to post for too long.

Thank you for this. I do see now that I think the ear is rotated a bit around the post, so I will get to fixing that asap.

I think I will ditch the brace also. I sent the pic to her breeder and she said the bridge was too low, making her ears ride behind the crown or her head. I can see that is the case, too.
