Is GF allergic to new dog?

My Girlfriend seems to be allergic to the new dog?
We’ve had a female Dobe for 5 years with no issue.
Just got this 1 year old male pup and she seems to be severely allergic?
Tried Claritin, Zyrtec, scrubbing the pup, scrubbing the GF!
I’ve heard that it’s possible to be allergic to one even if they are the same breed.
Not sure if it’s a shampoo issue (dander).
And help would be great, hate to see her suffer.

could be the specific dog causing the reaction? Think "genetically sharper hair on the new one vs. the existing one"? I am no biologist but one could have sharper hair than the other? And maybe a matter of growing will sort it out? puppy hair may also be different than the adult hairs that your girlfriend is used to. Hopefully with some time all will mesh.

I’m sorry this is happening. My son was like this when we brought our puppy home. I was of course stressed and worried how it would play out. Kept him on his regular allergy medication and over time he adjusted to her.

Has she been allergy tested? Might be worth it to pinpoint exactly what she is allergic to. I used to react to my Dobermans as a kid, got allergy tested and was negative to dogs. I would eventually get used to the Doberman and be fine.

Nasocort is also helpful, but not a long term solution. Air purifier in the home can help cut down of allergens too.

Like @Katyusharocket said the fur can cause a reaction as well since it’s short and spikey. Different pet dander can bother people differently as well.

Going to wash her (the dog) again today with an oatmeal shampoo.
Maybe it’s a skin thing and could help.

Trust me, I don’t want to bath him constantly.
Just want to make sure he doesn’t have a skin issue for his sake as much as hers.

Can be saliva too, I’m not sure if the vet can give you more advice in regards to that, but I’d call them too. Allergy testing for sure for the gf it’s very quick they prick the skin and you react or don’t. If it’s that bad she can always do shots which isn’t too bad either. It’s a pain to get going,but it’ll be a major help if that’s what going on.

Like @Jan stated be careful with over washing that will cause your pup skin issues also.

Trust me, I don’t want to bath him constantly.

If he had a skin issue, you would not likely see a human be allergic to that.. So test & treat the one that is have reactions. It may seem like the one and only big difference since her allergies started, but the only way to know is testing.

Also recently with crazy weather different cities are having more & more people having allergic reactions to pollens in the spring that they never had before, so you might consider that.

The itching is mostly gone (Zyrtec) but her eyes are still burning when she interacts with him.

Ok that’s good improving! Naphcon A eye drops, get those at the store, antihistamine in them. They work wonders!

And like @Ravenbird said allergy season is worse and starting sooner, could be a combo.

Looks like it’s narrowing down to the left eye.
This leads me to believe/hope that all will work itself out.
I just hate to see her suffer and avoid the dog because he loves her.

It sounds as if it’s calming down a bit. I’d get the purifier also and have that going 24/7.

Doesn’t help that they both want to be on top of her while my lap is empty!

I’m very excited and enthusiastic about tonight’s results.
Tammy came home and as always both dogs fought for a place on her lap. (That’s 150+ lbs of Doberman).
I asked her to keep her readers on a watch the TV over them, gave her a wet wipe and asked her to use it regularly and keep her hands away from her eyes.
We enjoyed each others company, with the boys n girls doing what they do for 4 or more hours before going to bed. (No Issues!)
