My new pup was born Feb. 12!

I wanted to get back to the hint I dropped in anther thread a while back and some of you called me out on it  and we ended up jacking the thread. Back then there were enough uncertainties to just say "probably".

A lot has gelled since then. Now I can say it out loud.

My red Euro girl was born Feb. 12! I am between 2 names, Zastava or Dasha. Just waiting for the day I can go pick her up in late April! This is my first Euro, or known Euro, anyway. (I have come to suspect that Katyusha is a Euro mix at least a little, with mostly American traits, but, I digress) If anyone has stories of what they did the first days/weeks bringing their Euro home, what worked well, or what they would do differently, I will be paying attention, as the DCF community has led me to believe the Euros are a whole other level.

Awwww CONGRATULATIONS 🎉!!!

Well, I am new to this euro dobie world myself haha, DCF has saved my butt a million times. Also, restored my sanity at times. 🤭🙃 I do not recall my dobies when I was a kid/teen being this wild or bitey. Like at all.

Pepper was a shy little meek thing at first…but buyer beware lol. I was honestly worried we had gotten a timid pup, which is fine, but I was thinking I had a lot of work to do. Nope, she’s a lunatic and has come out of her shell. Confidence is blooming and she’s full of energy.

You know what to do! You’re doing it now with Katy! And you’re doing fantastic! You’ll also have a helper too 😉 which from what I’ve read will be a lesser load for you. Clearly, more experienced folks on here than me.

You’ll do great and I am SO happy for you and Katy! The fun you all will have ❤️❤️❤️ cannot wait to see pictures of your new addition! Is she black and rust? Also, I love both the names, guess you’ll have to meet her in person to see what fits.

Congratulations!!! I can't wait to see photos and watch her grow up with us!

If anyone has stories of what they did the first days/weeks bringing their Euro home
I can't really comment since our Euros were pretty laid back but those South Americans.... LOL

Thanks @MichiH ! I appreciate your kind remarks. I know I will concentrate more on crate training than I did with Katy, and also the basic sit, down, stay, heel much earlier than I did with Katy. That's all I can think of for now to do differently. And yes I will have a helper! Thor and Toby were such good examples to Katyusha of just showing her what is expected in our home. I hope the same here.

This time I opted for rust and tan (red and tan), so I can tell them apart and hopefully get the right name if someone needs a verbal correction from across the yard or at the park LOL and also use the correct e-collar channel on the remote as that becomes age appropriate. I don't want to vibrate the wrong dog!
Congratulations!!! I can't wait to see photos and watch her grow up with us!
Thanks! She is about 5 hours away from me at this point, but once she is interactive I will try to get photos and permission to share them. (I always get a little nervous posting photos that I didn't take without permission)
but those South Americans.... LOL
What are the cliff's notes on the South Americans? The breeder I am working with has a South American (not a parent to my pup) but we didn't talk about their temperament much, just that the one in her program is so very sweet.

@Katyusharocket “If anyone has stories of what they did the first days/weeks bringing their Euro home”

The only thing that comes to mind is, listening to Stassi scream and throw a fit in her crate the first 3 nights for 8 hrs straight. No exaggerating either solid no stopping you could hear from outside my house.

Congrats! It really just depends on the individual breeding pair. There are easy euros, hard NA dobes, easy NA dobes, hard euros. What does your breeder do with her euros title wise? That will kind of give you a better idea of drives and temperaments to expect.

SA dobes can be sharp and more true to the breed's original intended purpose. I personally prefer them that way. Others, it is too much dog for them.

@Rits is right on!!

When Rag was still around with Freyja, I invested in the 2 dog Dogtra ECollar system for both Dobermans. Some like the Dogtra but I did not…I tried but just didn’t like. So when the transmitter got run over at the FastCAT, I bought the ECollar 2 dog set up. I used the black button for black Ragnar and the red button for red Freyja…

You are gonna do great!! I can’t wait to see how she turns out…

Be me? I fricking love the name Zastava! I can see me calling her Tava for short.

Wow, congratulations!

This is my first Euro,
LOL, here is your first "yikes" Many more to come, I'm sure!
I have come to suspect that Katyusha is a Euro mix
Hm...what was her backstory? I thought you had her as a puppy?
If anyone has stories of what they did the first days/weeks bringing their Euro home
Mostly crying and screaming...me and the dog :spit:
what worked well,
Potty training! Kaiser was a champ! The moment we let him out of the crate we picked him up and took him out the closest door. After any food, water, or play, straight outside!
what they would do differently
Everything but potty training haha. Training them asap, because their tiny little brains learn so much even if we think they're too young. I wouldn't let them off leash until age 2 because recall was damn tough and we needed to make him earn off leash privileges.

I don't know the answer to that yet. I honestly can't say that is something we talked about so far. I know that she does breed for temperament, and she will be assessing the 3 red females of the litter to help us pick the calmest one of those.

Thanks @Ddski5 ! So, cool thing with this name is that Since Katyusha is already named after an unguided rocket, Zastava I think is a beautiful name but is also the name of a Serbian arms maker. 2 girls, 2 unique names, 2 badass namesakes. New puppy's dad is also an import from Serbia. so....
Hm...what was her backstory? I thought you had her as a puppy?
It's true I had her as a puppy. I even was allowed in her house to go see her every day until she came home with me. I earned her by babysitting her parents. Before her parents, I had no contact with any Doberman, ever! So I hardly knew what I was looking at, just very sweet dogs that behaved so well in my home and were smart as whips. Of course I wanted one of their children! Back then, I never understood the different nuances of different Dobies. And I still have a lot to learn. I just never bothered to learn her heritage because she was just going to be a pet for me, and I don't even know how much her parents mom knows about it? Yes, Katyusha was backyard bred (or maybe it's a hobby breeder, 2 litters from the same 2 parents and thats it) but I am completely proud to have her. Now that I see different pictures of Americans, Euros, and have the community to teach me what I am looking at, I do see Euro features in her dad especially, and in 2 out of her 4 siblings that I have contact with. Her sister Beya is BUILT! Nothing twiggy about her, or the brother, Axol. We just went to see her parents last weekend, looking at her dad now, helped satisfy my mind why some of the children are so thick.

oh dear!

Great to know! Thanks!

I appreciate this too! Its one mistake that came from our situation when Katyusha was in her formative months. I was stripping 5 tons of stucco off my home, and then insulating, wrapping, and siding my home. While my home isn't glorious, it certainly isn't small, so, while I was around a lot, I was outside most of the time and absolutely exhausted. Any kind of formal training with her didn't really happen until she was well on to 9 months. We eventually got some training at Petco and made a nice recovery. In those early months she was just taught by my other dogs what the household expectations were, and they taught her well.

I am between 2 names, Zastava or Dasha
Zastava is special and different - that's what I always try to do. And I must be honest, one of my pet names for Asha is Dasha. It's a sweet nothing kinda name, used in quiet times, never in amped up training time. ❤️

I do so look forward to your new puppy and all the photos and stories that are bound to come with! Big congratulations!!!

I think that describes most of us with pups but it does get easier as you go on with the breed and learn their tricks.
Most of them have different little tricks to match their personalities but one of the big ones that has kept going is the hole in the carpet that Della started 15 years ago. It has been patched many times but it's a total magnet for all of our pups to this day.

Thanks so much! Not so much in the years when I got Thor and Toby, but more so these days, realizing that when I call Katyusha, she is the only dog that looks at me. With that being said, I didn't want a name that started with a K sound, because of how responsive I have come to understand Dobermans are. So unique has become important to me, in dog names. I love how for you, Asha becomes Dasha for the quiet times.:)

Congratulations! I can’t wait to see her!

Besides just crate training for overnight, I would put Remy in the crate for about an hour every afternoon for a nap. I still do sometimes. It’s rare for the house to be empty, so I wanted to make sure he would still settle in there when there were other things going on. Nap time in the crate was also very helpful for overtired puppy behavior lol.

Recently we had family over for dinner, including my grandparents and 10 month old niece. I had Remy crated for most of this. At some point my grandpa walked past the crate and said “what’s wrong with him, why is he just laying like that?” 😂 He was quiet and slept peacefully the whole time. Just another benefit of crate training!

Congratulations! I can’t wait to see her!
I can't wait to show her to you all! She will be a very special pup to me, while I still plan on maintaining Katyushas skills and work. Toby doesn't work, per se. He just does what we all are doing. I am looking forward to new puppy showing me what she likes for work. I have a friend crazy enough to wear the bite pillows, a dog park full of great agility equipment (as a starter area) and a therapy dog co-volunteer who can evaluate cgc and trick dog and therapy dog work (and she also does rally training at our local ACK affiliate). And @Ravenbird who puts a lot of cool info on DCF for scent work. Just going to love her and learn her and see what she wants as a path for her, and take her down it!

side note on Toby, He's blind as a bat but I am looking to get him therapy dog registered too, because even pets he can't see coming never scares him. Then a friend of mine will also test out with Katyusha to be her therapy handler, so both these great dogs can go to work and help out on the same events.

Stassi’s pet name from my wife, or her real name is Stassiana. Everyone just calls her Stassi.
I am interested! Is it a German name? Is there a meaning or translation? What was your basis for picking this name? Any special meaning to you other than an absolutely beautiful full name and also beautiful short version?

Sasha is 3/4 Euro. 73# at 2 yrs old. She knows so many words, we are spelling things half the time now. She is our first Dobe, whip smart and stubborn to the extreme. As a pup, I feared she was posessed. She would glaze over and jump and bite and …it was crazy. She is collar savy; knows what collar does what. She adores my husband and will stare at him adoringly for hours in the evening. She loves me when she is hungry or when she wants to go to bed. To this day, she MUST run and frisbee nearly daily. Flirt pole was a good toy when she was younger. No matter what command she knows, and she knows them all, she might choose to say no. She is constant, and we love every minute of it. She loves to travel too, and early on we learned to take her with us, even just for a drive. The mental stimulation helps tire them. Puzzle toys, she just chews up. Crate training saved us. Also, I feel strongly that early bonding is very important. I would be conscious of her spending time with you and not always with the other dogs. In the grand scheme of things, I know nothing, but I do know she is the best dog we have ever had, and I pray she lives many years to come. Congrats!

I have to chuckle a little how my wife came up with the name. First it is Russian. But my wife used to watch a reality TV show and one of the female cast was named Stassi. But her real name was Anastassia. Which is a variant of the classic Anastasia. Well my wife came up with another variant Stassiana! And here we are
