Ok. So we just got home. They had to wheel him out on a gurney bc he can't walk yet bc of the medication. They gave him Valium bc of the seizure. He is out of it. I had to get a neighbor to help me carry him inside. I cant believe they sent him home like this. Im afraid he is going to stop breathing.View attachment 119349

Yeah, they shouldn't have sent him home not fully awake
Are they 24 hour facility? Did they give you an e-collar? When he wakes and goes right to licking that leg. That will be the real challenge. He should be fine once he wakes. It could be the sedation they used. I worked at a 24 hour animal hospital for 22 years. Tech. Geez. Hang in there.

He is all healed up and back to his usual self. Just has a big scar on his leg now. It was quite the ordeal!

Oh good. Thank Heavens. It is scary, especially when he was sent home still pretty much out of it. These guys really do beat themselves up. My Dante constantly comes in with scrapes, minor cuts and pads always being torn or cut. Drives me crazy. Dante is lucky to have a very big, but rough yard to race through.

Yeah, im paranoid now. Everytime he takes off running around the yard Im cringing and hoping he doesnt hurt himself again.

And you're right they are tough dogs. So you won't even know there is a wound til you happen to find it yourself. Or maybe the telltale licking. That's when I always know there's something a miss on his foot. Haha. Then I have to monitor the licking or worse chewing on a torn pad. Dante really needs boots. You can only control so much. I try to cover all skinny tree stumps (they're like bamboo shoots coming out of the ground) with piles of grass clippings to soften the sharpness. You do the best you can. I can't rearrange the entire woods for him.

Skynyrd just cut his leg open again! This time it's his high up on his front leg and he is limping. All the vets are closed for labor day and the ER vet has a 4 hour wait. Im so upset! I don't know what to do

Oh no! How large is the cut? You think it'll need stitches? Are there any horse vets in the area? Maybe they can help you out. Post a picture Maybe @Tropicalbri's can help.

I would spray it with something like Vetericyn to keep it clean so you can determine how bad this is. I wouldn't have thought of a horse vet, but why not? Ugh and the timing of these dogs - it's like they know it's the weekend!

Clean it, spray vetericyn on it and put a compression wrap on it.
You may be able to go to drug store and get skin adhesive (glue). Also butterfly closure strips, clean and dry it then pinch edges together and apply glue and butterfly strips, then put on a compression bandage.

Its not pouring blood but whatever it is against it leaves blood. He is limping pretty bad thats what is worrying me the most. The cut is almost like a puncture. Everyone thinks I should just wrap it and see how he is but Im scared something could be hurt.

I can do a closure and bandage on Bacall’s leg and video tape it to show you how to do the closures and bandage if you want but I need to see a picture of it.

You can’t know if it’s soft tissue damage. Whatever punctured him is most likely causing the limping so I would get it cleaned up and wrapped. If you have any analgesic you can give him some for pain.
Or you can dose with Benadryl to take the edge off his pain.
