Oh, OK. I don't know why I was thinking 12', but I was admiring that as the fencing around my own backyard (the parts that permit fencing) are only 6' high, and hey have to slope down to 4 ft. with open pickets, so as not to obstruct the neighbor's view of the "wilderness area" behind the properties.

As for the "barking," I was concerned because you had mentioned that if people see a Dobie on your property, they'd try to kill it by throwing poisoned food. So, if they can't see it from the fencing, might they still be able to hear the dogs bark and attempt to kill them anyway?

I think the only ones that would attempt to poison them would be intruders on the property. Someone looking to steal or damage property or harm us. I don’t think that will happen but given the remoteness of the property, it would be someone up to no good.

I honestly think this idea is good due to my Doberman his father actually got killed from poison which is extremely unfortunate for the breeder we got our dog from. It’s honestly just sick the people that live in this world. Luckily where I live the only time my dogs are out and about they are supervised by me or my wife. Its just sad people these days. I take my dog out in public and people are terrified but my dog is well socialized and one day at Lowe’s a lady approached us her 3 year old wanted to pet our dobe and he ended up hugging him one by one I hope well mannered and socialized Dobermans change the stereotype of Dobermans and in doing so people feel less threatened and won’t feel the need to harm Dobermans.

My two are never left out alone as I am always with them but we are moving to Roatan, Honduras next year (The Bay Islands of Honduras) and the property has 4 acres. Being in a foreign country you just never know. I don’t expect it to happen but I would rather train against it and know it won’t happen. My twins are so Velcro with me they are like a sticky booger. You just can’t get them off you no matter what you do. Lol I just feel if someone wanted to be mean they could easily toss a piece of meat in the yard and they would gobble it up before I could stop them. I may have given the wrong impression about the people where we are moving. The majority are super nice but there are certain elements that exist there that I want to take precautions against. The mere thought of something happening to them when I could have trained against it would be devastating.
We will be doing a lot of renovations on the property with workers coming and going so I just feel it’s a precaution I need to take.
I’m sorry to hear about your Doberman’s sire. That is horrible.

I agree taking every precaution possible and hopefully it never comes down to that. And it was devastating for our breeder the sire to my dog was 10 but he had just received a clean bill of health from the vet the month before. It’s just the world today unfortunately.

Oh my, is this a topic I'm interested in.

I have always wanted to poison-proof, and snake-proof my Dobe!

Honestly, I have never really done it. Truth told, my last two Dobes would be gonners if anyone fed them poison. My first Dobe (sounds like your first) was amazing and would leave a treat alone on the dash of my truck during my 12-hour overnight work shifts (yes, I visited him on my breaks).

I did try to enlist help from a friend of my sister's one time. I asked her to walk by my Dobe, who was tied out to a tree in our front yard, and offer him a treat but to toss water in his face if he went for the treat. She declined.

But yes, I've read about using an appropriately electrified item to deter dogs from grabbing snakes and such.

I would love to learn more about your experiences and this topic.

Several months ago, we had our mailman toss a large basted Millbone over our fence. I happened to be watching him walk down the long driveway that parallels our fence line. I had to shout at him "Please, no treats!" He said "Okay, sorry!" He's a nice enough guy, and I had previously assured him that my Dobe barking furiously at him from behind our front door glass was nothing personal.
