Question about my 25 day old pups

Hey guys. Im new here and I wanted to ask about my doberman pups. I have puppies who seem to have a different color than usual. I researched other doberman colors, fawn and isabella, but im not 100% sure they're that type. There are 3 who seem to be black and tan but has grayish hair as well, 2 who have really gray hair but the head is black and tan, and one red but seems to have very light brown hair but the head is really like a red doberman's.

Both are black and tan. The owner of the sire said that might have been my bitch's line. Not 100% sure since I have no contact with the person who sold my bitch..

Hold on a minute. You bred your Doberman and don’t know the breeds colors, and you don’t know your females lines ? Is she health tested or titled ?

From where we're from, it's not a common thing to have papers for dogs. That's more of a luxury and I am not able to afford. Sorry if this makes me sound like a very irresponsible owner. I love my dog (now dogs) to death and not knowing her line/not having her titled or anything doesn't make me less of an owner. She has a health card, complete vaccines and all. Pups got dewormed and will be up for vaccination on may 4th.

Reason I wanted to breed my doberman is because we are from a middleclass/lower class family, relatives too, and live in a community where theft and crime run rampant. Dobermans are very loyal dogs and very intelligent and one of the best guard dogs around. My dog was in heat, so I decided to do it so I can provide protection for my relatives as well. Just yesterday, people broke in to my cousin's house. They looted some dvd players (we're that poor to even still have dvd players), phones, and wallets, etc.

I hope you understand. I mean no offense to anyone here. I joined this forum to find answers, share some tips, and what not, from fellow doberman owners.

Welcome to DCF.... Considering you are from The Philippines your standards might not be the same as in other countries so I can understand you wanting to assist your family with protection... In America we try to have all the back ground info on dogs before they are breed to insure good health...I wish you well and pray for your safety...

Now as for colors I am not a breeder so I can not assist in determining exactly what you have, however they are cute and I'm sure you will take good care of them...

So every puppy is going to a family member free of charge?

Thank you! I'm pretty sure I will until they're 2 to 3months old and complete with vaccinations. :) Then i can send them over. I cant risk them having parvo due to the number of stray dogs we have in our city.

Also, reason why im asking for their color is ive read somewhere there might be health risks for fawn/isabella dobermans. I just wanted to be extra careful if they were.

Also, yes, im going to give them away free of charge, of course.

@Cerseigirl .. I'm sure there will be others who chime in on the colors and expectations...there are tests that can be done, but it sounds like your resources might be limited so I don't know if that's an option...None the less I know you'll get them all their needed Vaccinations and Vet care...:)

One last thing....some might not like that you bred your dog without testing, and that's ok. It's not their call and I understand your reasonings...It's a good forum and you can learn a lot...once again Welcome!

I understand. Thank you so much. Hoping I learn more from you and this group. I'll share some pics when they're a little grown up. Again, many thanks. :)

Looks like you have some fawns, blues and I think a red. It was hard to tell from the lighting in the pictures.

Just a note, fawns and blues are prone to having skin problems like CDA (color dilute alopecia).
It causes itchy skin, hair loss and patchy areas on the body.
Proper diet and supplements are necessary to help in dealing with skin issues.
This breed is plagued with a lot of health problems with DCM being a huge concern, among others.
All you can do now is give them the very best that you can afford to keep them healthy.
What food do you feed your female?

Welcome to DCF and I wish only the best for you and your pups. What area of the Philippines are you from?
I lived there in the early 60’s.

Hi and welcome to DCF from the UK.

First off, so you know, we are highly passionate about the breed and thrive for a bright future for the dobermann and the only way we can get there is through good breeding today. Stringent health testing on parents are of the highest priority. We value the health and well-being above all else. All ethical and responsible breeders health test, temperament test, title their dogs, and aim to produce only the highest quality Dobermans which will better the gene pool.

So, for us, it’s difficult to wrap our heads around you breeding your bitch. I hope you understand that and hopefully respect our views and opinions on the matter.

In turn, I’m trying not to be insensitive as there are many different cultures and people, so are there different attitudes about dogs.

Looking at the pups, maybe blue, fawn and red? It’s difficult to see.
Blues and Fawns are just dilutes of the dominant colors Black & Red.
Blue is the dilute of Black & Fawn is the dilute of Red. So, just getting my head around this, you want to pre-warn and inform your family that they have a dilute? That’s why you are asking about the colour? Our priorities are very different, I hope you understand. The colour comes WAY down the list after health and temperament testing.

Did you have to pay a stud fee to the males owner? Is he taking a pup(s)?

The health risks are genetic so that's why it is very important for health testing to be done on both the sire and dam prior to breeding.
The risks are not just for fawns it for the entire litter.
Without knowing the genetic health of the parents, you don’t know what health problems the puppies will have or can develop as they age.

I think this is a situation where the litter was created just to produce dobermans for family members that live in high crime area. Both parents are w/o papers so no stud fee or testing done.

Thought as much. Still struggling to process why you would bang two dogs together with no health testing, history, papers......And then proceed to ask questions on possible future health problems and or risks with the litter??? The damage has already been done. If you are going in blind then surely you have to face the consequences. It’s all back to front in my eyes!!! But if there is no care to health and temperament then colour becomes the main priority. Hm!

So, in that respect are they trained in personal protection, @Cerseigirl? Why kind of training do you do to train the dog to guard your property? Or is it just a deterrent? What happens if the dog bites? And lastly, what happens if the dog just isn’t up to it’s job to protect or guard? A shy disposition? It’s not unheard of.

I wouldn't worry too much about coat color now. Puppy coats change as they grow. Also coat color can be different from dog to dog. Reds can be any where from red to brown. The dilutes can also can varying color from lighter to darker.
The health problems associated with dilutes are the same with any doberman. The one difference is the skin. They are at risk of CDA, color dilution alopecia. It affects the hair follicles and causes baldness. If not properly cared for it can lead to chronic skin infections and some other problems. They may not have CDA but will have a thinner coat. The best coat is black, the reds have a slightly thinner coat and dilutes have the thinnest of all.
Living where you do I recommend you make sure the new owners are aware and research how to care for their pup. Because of the thin coat, sunscreen will be a must. Yes dogs can get sunburned and it can lead to skin cancer.
Owning a dilute may be a bit more work as far as caring for their skin but can definitely be done.
After owning a fawn, I believe the reason dilutes are considered higher health risks is because of poor breeding. The greeders breed for them because of their 'unique' color. Breeding for something like color brings with it health problems. As said by many already, dobermans should be bred for quality, not color.

Welcome to the dcf papers don’t make a great pal. There’s a wealth of info here and there’s also strong passion for the breed here it just comes with the territory. As others stated it appears you have some blues fawns and reds there coats will start to become clearer as the get a little older

I'm from Davao. Where did you stay back in the 60's? A lot has changed for sure. :)

I know the changes since then are huge and I wouldn’t even recognize any of it now.
