Orijen puppy food

That’s great OP! I had to give up on the Orijen, he didn’t take well to it at all. Pure diarrhea, vomitting and such.

I have a lot of the orijen left if you want it, it’s already packed and ready for shipping.
Have you checked with the store you bought it from. My pet store will take it back and refund your money if the dog doesn't like it. It's expensive so might be worth checking into.

I found canidae which I’m transitioning him to right now. Mixed with rice and chicken. Solid poops.

Also, I can’t return it they don’t have that policy and I opened the bag and poured it into a dog food container.

I'm on the opposite coast so I'm sure it would be super expensive to ship otherwise I'd take it. I'm glad your little guy is getting relief.

Thanks and it may all fit in a large usps box. I can check and get back to you. I really hate to just throw it away.

So I have been mixing in this Orijen puppy food with my dogs current food. He loves it as a matter of fact he tries to eat all the orijen brand vs his food. After 2 days of feeding he I have been monitoring his stool and it has been liquid complete liquid not hard or semi hard still at all just a super soaked out the rear. Has anyone had this same problem ?

Yes, for the first few days of transition she had liquidy stool.

The sensitivities of this breeds stomach are something else. We also found Acana (owned by Orijen) too rich and Kaiser had loose stool issues for months before going to raw. You can't judge it too quick because it takes time for the dog to adapt to the new food, but I'm beginning to think Doberman puppies should start with other brands instead. It's a lot of money getting pooped out.

I had the same issue, orijen ended up not working for him. I tried another brand and eventually gave up on kibble.

My advice is move to raw food, it was the best decision I made. He poops once a day now, small and solid. Sometimes he poops every other day. It’s amazing and he’s happy.

Give it a week. Try splitting the meals to 2-3x a day. Try cutting the amount of Orijen in half until he adapts. This is pretty common with rich food as their stomach builds the acids to handle it.

Thanks everyone ! I decided to cut back on go back to his regular food. I want to make sure I can get his stool solid. I have had Trigger for a month now and his stool has never really been solid. By the 3rd day of owning him I started to see a bloody looking mucus in his stool. I waited a few days and it kept appearing. I took him to the vet with a stool sample and the vet tested it and said he had a bacteria infection called Spirochetes. Hes been on meds the vet gave us and I haven't seen any bloody stool. Now the problem is it's still dirreaha ! I thought maybe if I switched his food it may help harden it but it just got worse. So I'm keeping the regular food diet until his poop gets harder if it doesn't then I know it's his old brand food.

If he is still having diarrhea you may need to give his system some time to recover. Boiled chicken and rice can help as it is easy on the stomach. Keep feeding this until he has normal poos. Then slowly add in some kibble. Some can switch cold turkey, other dogs need to switch 1/4c for a few days at a time.

:2cents:2cents....Like many I read all posts, replying to some and taking note of others...I've been feeding raw for 7-8 yrs so my input might be dated...

Here's what I think I'm seeing with kibble feeders....You might not be introducing the products correctly for the dogs system to adjust...mixing for a few days might not be long enough...If I remember correctly from days past, it could take up to 2 weeks to switch without continued issues. Of course the product too must be agreeable to the dogs system...

I used to feed Natures Valley's "Instinct" Lamb/Rabbit (highly rated & 10% moisture content)...kind of expensive at $65-75 per 20lb bag @ Pet Smart. However, none of my dogs ever had an issue and I still use it for training treats....:2cents:2cents

For how much you’re going to spend on orijen each month for him you could feed him raw. Probably for cheaper and be more beneficial for you and the dog. (I.e less poops, smaller and such).

I would love to feed him a raw diet but I just dont have the time to prep his meals to be honest. 85 bucks for 25lbs of orijen. It is expensive but that's as close to raw as I will get in a dry form.

I get premade ground raw from a local business that manufactures it. It’s 2.50 a pound and he eats 2 pounds a day. I also throw in an extra 6oz of ground beef or steak during lunch right now to bulk him up since he’s a little underweight. The prep time is literally cutting the logs in 5 pieces and putting them in ziplock baggies. So 162 a month for the raw food along with maybe another 30-40 with the extra meat I’m feeding him right now. I prep a weeks worth of meals in less than 20 minutes. It’s cheaper and healthier for him than kibble. Just my two cents.
