Well they have finally arrived!!

IMG_0403.webp Sooo I'm starting to get curious with how these two are playing. Sometimes they get along great and run along next to each other checking things out.:sonic:

Then they are full bore running at each other and taking each other down:bump:. Growling, nipping at ears and loose skin. Sometimes to a point one yelps or cries. I want to let them play and get rid of the energy but I feel sometimes it maybe too rough. Just don't want to be raining ☔ on their parade when they are just having fun.

Never raised 2 pups at the same time..or dobes for that matter!:eeeeek:

Totally :eeeeek: with 2 pups!

I do know that Dobes play rather rough as that is how they learn bite inhibition, so maybe you don't need to worry but those with twins should advise further.

On another note, I'm more curious about your umbrella icon. It's not part of the standard set on this site. Yet I know the full set of icons available on my phone don't work. Or do they suddenly work?

LOL They can play rough..sometimes what can freak us out watching is just pure play..let em rip..a good idea if you see real aggression is a spray bottle of water..it comes in handy for a few behaviors that you don't what. It never hurts to let em know who is the alpha dog er that's you.. lol Can't wait to see lots more photos.

Don't worry at all about rough play between the pups. It's natural.

Are they littermates? I forget.

On the other hand, when they reach the age of becoming sexually mature you may have to watch out for serious fights breaking out – especially if they are of the same sex.

I've heard, read and seen it: Dobes play rough.

:lmao:. I have no idea, but it appears it worked. I do believe I have tried using them before on other posts and it didn't work. Who knows..good ol' technology!!!:wtf:

Do you think that the water bottle used as a deterrent/correction would result in a Dobe that fears/is put-off by water? I don't want my Dobe to be able to be neutralized by a bad guy throwing water on them.

I tested it with two icons in my last post and they didn't appear. Are you on Android or iOS?

That's funny you mentioned a spray bottle. It totally crossed my mind and then I thought, "wait, that's for cats there is no way it works for these muscle heads!" :tearsofjoy:
It does work on Dobes too! We never had to spray our cat but we finally gave in to getting a spray bottle with K. He requires a regular reminder to stay off the counters. Seeing the bottle pointed at him is sufficient as he does not like to smell like vinegar! But it's especially effective when there's more than one dog to manage. It quickly distracts them.

I would limit their play time together to about 15min at a time four or 5 times a day. Then have one on one time with them to build their confidence without the other one around. You want them to be able to function independent of each other. Do not allow the squabbling between them as it can escalate when they are older. Mine have got into some pretty nasty squabbles so you have to make sure they understand that is not allowed behavior.
It is a lot of work, I know because I am raising littermates as well. The rough housing is normal but needs to be stopped once it becomes serious. It's like kids, it can escalate quickly. My two play really rough as I think almost all dobermans do. :)

A friend of ours has a yellow and black lab. Both young (at the time) and probably less than a year apart. They played so rough that they used a spray bottle too! They still don't let them go full bore! Her husband takes the black lab to work with him and she keeps the yellow lab at home with her. They sleep separately too. She said she'd have no couch left if they were both out together! One time they let them go and 3 hours later, they were still at it! :wideyed:

It really does work ..I learned that one from Flynn's breeder..Now I fortunately have never have a full on fight between any of my dogs but every once in while Jake and Flynn had words..really a vocal quarrel and the spray just tells them to knock it off. It comes in handy for unwanted barking too....cheaper than a bark collar. lol ;)..Jake can be awful in the car at times barking and the spray bottle works there also.

You know that many warn against having two males..well I have always have two ..Flynn and Jake always got along quite well but I would say not quite as mellow a relationship as Max and Jake.. I am always aware of that and so I do draw the line if I think it's getting all nasty..The spray bottle is great. The most that ever happened with them is roaring at each other but I don't like it..no cussing at my house lol..so the spray was great for that. I really think Flynn caused it because he could be pushy and Jake was just telling him to back off..in the main they could solve it themselves but it doesn't hurt to have a bit of intervention to make sure it goes no further than words. ;) I have never had any of my dogs hurt each other and hope never to have anything bad happen. Both boys for the most part really enjoyed each other..they played together and loved running through the fields together..It's a great thing to watch and photograph as well..many really scary looking shots of course are pure play. Just like my profile pic ;) and of course they knew how to dance..lol
