Backyard Chickens?

Good to know about the steamer and fresh eggs - I was wondering about that.

Those are definitely geese. I'm pretty sure they are Embden because my Mom used to have them.

That's what they look like to me. @MyBuddy do they have blue eyes? If so they are Emdens.
We have some friends that are homesteaders and they have probably 50 of them. They have really pretty blue eyes and are known for their watch dog abilities. But they are actually very affectionate with family members....funny little birds.

Isn't that beautiful! I honestly don't know about the blue eyes but I will ask her. I have a short video of them 'honking'. I'll try and get it up here soon. They don't let you get a word in edgewise!! lol She lives far off the road but she says sometimes just someone walking down the road will get them honking! Then her dogs start! So she says she has no need for an alarm system!! :spit:

Oh, but she says that they don't seem to be that friendly! She told me even when she feeds them, they are honking and pecking at her! She doesn't understand why after 19 years! Maybe they are trying to be friendly and she's misinterpreting it! lol

Sometimes the males can be a little unpredictable but all of the females I've been around are pretty sweet. My Mom's male would sometimes chase you and try to beat you with his wings. LOL

I'd refer her to post #10 ;)

I'm gonna have to get some of these to match my dogs. :D
Gosh they're beautiful!!

My girls keep getting out. my 10 year old was grounded for a month for "leaving the coop open" but now I'm not so sure. I was the last one in, and they were loose again so I really think it's the latch. now I feel bad he lost out on a whole month haha!

We've stopped laying too now. it's been about a week with no eggs, down from getting 4 daily guess I'll have to stretch what we have until spring haha!

hat are they gold laced Wyandotte's? Looks like they have the right comb for it but they lack the body, are they bantys?

They are called Sebrights, a fancy banty. The one above is a Golden Sebright but they also come in silver. They were bred for more ornamental purposes so probably won't become part of my flock.

Can you put a lock on it? If not I would be replacing it with one you could. We have had hens for about 4-5 years now. This is the first years we have had much trouble with predators. We took every possible precaution to make sure they couldn't get in (including locks) and so far it has worked.

I thought they looked like bantys. I've not owned sebrights but they are so pretty, and of course now that you say their name I'm shocked I didn't see it. I am chicken fan.

So we added to our flock today. Not our intention, a friend dropped them off this afternoon.
She bought them before she checked the laws in her city. Why do people do that? :tap:
They are 10 week old Buff Orpinton's and should look like this when the are grown.

I have them in a dog crate inside the coop until we see if everybody is going to get along. :fingersx:
