She's here!

Well I'm kinda losing my mind. I sent Vera a message saying I could use a puppy fix. This poor woman is probably regretting the day she said she would sell me a pup. I ask constant questions and most likely drive her crazy with picture request. I try my best to be careful how I word things. Between the laungage barrier and different cultures, I certainly don't want to offend her. But surely she understands she is in charge of caring for my baby? There is no life outside of that, right?
I will say Drake's injury came at a good time. We had gotten kinda lax on the crate. He is such a good boy and doesn't really spend much time in his crate any more. So this time in the crate has been good for him. He's gonna need to be used to it. I'm still not sure what I am going to do about the spay/neuter thing, so crate time will be a must.

Oh and to make sure I have my bases covered, let's make a list of puppy supplies. It's been awhile since I had a pup (a real one, not one that still acts like one ) in the house.
Let's I have a brand new crate. Collars in varying sizes, lots of durable toys. Still deciding on food. Drake is on a rotation diet, not sure I want to do that while she is a pup. I'm sure there is more I have forgotten so throw your ideas out there.

Have you got her bedding yet? We started off with a huge cushion and progressed to a crate pad with a comfy cushion.

You must be begging for a puppy fix...as are we!! Lol

Ooh let me play catch up here. I didn't know they could dock that late! I was always told it "had" to be done within a few days of birth!! How interesting! I love the crops that have come from Vera, so I'm sure she'll be beautiful regardless!

Puppy supplies I know some of which you already have but... bowls, leash, chewies, crate, collar, bedding (?), enzyme cleaning supplies (for the inevitable accidents lol), camera (for the pictures well all need), hmmmm I'll have to keep thinking.

Oh, and dew claws. That was the other topic I wanted to comment on. Mischa still has hers, and we were going to remove them during her spay but they are attached by bone. Not only did it triple the cost, but also significantly upped the recovery so I opted against it. They don't bother her, but I don't particularly like them lol

They can and it can actually be beneficial. Like @Ingrid H said you can get a much more accurate idea of where the second joint is. Also less chance of Momma causing damage.

She does have some bedding. I'll probably be cautious with that until I figure out if she is gonna eat it. Drake was my first ever puppy and I was VERY lucky with him. He is not a chewer, very easy to potty train and just an all around good puppy. I take a look at the naughty puppy thread and have nightmares!

Lots of paper towels and cleaning supplies. ;)
An ID tag.
Gates?
Posting supplies (I think you said you already got them)
A new memory card and fresh battery for your camera :D

Yes I do have posting supplies and I ordered a gallon of the cleaner that comes highly recommended on here. Can't for the life of me think of the name. I haven't used my spot bot in ages so I got it out this weekend to make sure it works. We're good!
The tag is one I didn't think of though. Good idea!

I drove by the airport today. I got so excited I couldn't hardly stand myself. The thought crossed my mind that the next time I do that I will be turning in there to pick up my girl!

I'm guessing Natures Miracle? Love that stuff!

The Spot Bot is priceless with a pup and well worth the price. Ours has a broken part so I need to replace it since nothing cleans up dog vomit like it.

Oh yes, familiar memories there for sure! I drive past our airport every time I go to town, but the memories are still there and when we were waiting for the pups to come home it made me excited every time.

Is it normal that they aren't docked yet ? I thought dobes were docked in their first week ?

I asked about that too! @GennyB can clarify better, but she said it's actually better to wait, because the mom won't bother the healing process with licking the end of the tail, and the vet can get a better feel for the 2nd joint for where to dock at.

Yes, probably best to keep away from the naughty puppy thread! Lol

I understand your feelings on the bedding. I've had one chewer and 2 non-chewers. I guess it's about giving it time to get a feel.

It's normal in Europe. I researched it after I found out it would be done all at once. There are actually some breeders here in the states that do it all at once. As I mentioned above there are a few reasons for it.
When the tail is done in the first week it is hard to tell where the joints are and often they are too long and have to be redone at the cropping. Of course a good Mom likes to keep her babies clean and licks them which can irritate the dock site slowing the healing time and sometimes causing a bald spot. The pups are usually separated from Mom by crop/dock time so the dock site has better chance of healing cleanly and it is easier to find the second joint.

Yes! Nature's Miracle. Couldn't think of the name for nothing.

I hope I won't have much use for the spot bot. Wishful thinking.....I didn't need it with Drake. But ya never know, this little girl may teach me what having a puppy is really like.
I always say Drake was easy on me because he knew he was my first pup.

I have also been researching Mom and Dad to keep myself distracted. I found a pic of a Valencia pup that made me happy. I know they give the results of a nice litter to the sire but I still believe Momma plays a role too.

If Rumor is anything like this Valencia pup, I'll be over the moon happy.
