Backyard Birds

I took a photo of a hawk and blue Jay going at it and neither one wanted to give in. I finally just shooed them off and they were both fine.
This was quite a few years ago (and one of my first digital cameras) so it's little.

I was just outside putting more bird seed out and standing right next to the Wren's house and she was about 4 feet from me, watching my every move and seemingly not afraid! lol

Aww cute, I love nesting birds!

I stopped at the park/pond where those baby Canadian geese are today to get some closer photos. There are two families and one is a bit older than the ones crossing the street the other day.

A closer photo of the younger ones. A lady who goes there to feed them quite often said that they're yellow when they're first born. I didn't know that.

A very short video I took of the parents protecting the babies if you got too close. I kept it short because I didn't want to disturb them. Can you hear them hissing at me? LOL

Haha, Yes! I always find it so amazing (and wonderful!) that motherhood (and fatherhood! ;) ) brings out our protective nature!! Big time!
I hope you don't mind me sharing someone else's pictures. These wild turkeys and their chicks were taken by friends.
Not at all! I love these! Like going to the zoo or something, sometimes you don't always get a chance to see everything in your lifetime! And I love animals! Any kind. :D And to get a chance to see babies is always a treat!

We have a Robins nest right in our Dwarf Apple tree! Right at eye level so I could easily get a shot of the nest. I didn't stay long. Momma was squawking at me like those geese! lol!

We don't get much in the way of colourful smaller birds here but this is fairly common, especially out on the boat.
AWESOME!!!!!!!! I love it! I told the story somewhere here when I saw my first Bald Eagle fly right across the back of our house, eye level with me as I was standing by the window! O. M. G. I was so thrilled I couldn't sit still for an hour! LOL! Whoa, that was awesome. Hawks, eagles, cranes, all so beautiful! And in flight, ahhhhhh....love it!

The other day I was at my son's house visiting my daughter in law and grandsons and she starts telling me about the seagulls in the back of her house. I'm like  seagulls? They do have a creek in the back of their property but I still thought that was odd. She said its cawing now...go check it out. I go out on the back deck and listened. :woot2: I said, "Um, that's a hawk!" lol! He was real close too so I listened and tracked him to a tree. Suddenly, he came flying out! Wow, beautiful! I told her, 'Now you know. Hawk. Not Seagull.' Keep the camera handy! ;)

They really are fantastic birds and plentiful around here as well. We see them on the shoreline all the time and, of course, along all the streams when the salmon are spawning. They're fairly bold, when I'm kayaking I can float up quite close. There's a predator bird sanctuary nearby that I visit a couple times a year as well; I'll take my camera next time.

Oh wow, you got some great shots there Jan. I really like the last one with the sun streaming through the wing.

For sure!! I love the pics of the hummingbirds!! Very nice, Jan! They come to our flowers on the back deck so I haven't even put out my feeder this year. When we enjoy our coffee out there on Sunday mornings, we try and be very quiet when we see one approach. Sometimes Kali sees them and she will go after it!! :tap:

Thanks you guys! I love them too and wish I was actually on the outside of the window when I can catch photos. It never fails, they're buzzing around my head when I'm out there without the camera. LOL

I caught a few of an eagle sitting in the tree down the road. It was really close to the road the other day when I went by, but I didn't feel like turning around. There was one in the same area this morning so I did turn around to get a few. It never fails, when I see them I don't have one of the better cameras along and it's dark and cloudy...

The geese have really been gathering to start their migration south, so I've been taking quite a few pics of them too.

I wasn't sure whether to put this in summer birds or winter birds, but wow the hoards of Redpolls lately....

REDPOLL > " Hey, guys! Let's meet at Jan's place! There's FOOD and lots of it!! Come on, come on!!! Yum! Look at it all! Me first, me first! hey, get outta my way! You bully! Get your own spot!! Lets flock here again tomorrow! " :D

Speaking of birds...........don't know what is going on, but we have tons EVERYWHERE!
Yesterday being Easter, we had lots of friends and family over. It was a nice day till the evening when we got a little bit of rain. Nice day, lots of people means spending some time out in the fresh air. Of course that means the door gets opened and closed a lot! Everybody left and I was tired so I went to bed early, about 10ish. Not sure what time, but I was awaken rudely! Apparently a bird had gotten in the house and thought my head was a good place to land. Scared me to death! I woke up screaming! Drake went nuts trying to get the poor thing, knocking everything over that got in his way. Hubby was still up and came running in to see what in the world is going on only to see what must have looked like a war zone. Lamp knocked over, sheets and blankets off the bed and laying everywhere, and a cleared off dresser with a dobie standing on it trying to climb the wall. Add to that a hysterical wife convinced someone had broken in the house and wanted to kill her.

Needless to say I didn't get much sleep last night...
