That's the thing that ticks me off the most MGW. The people I run into that say they want one but you never see them with a dog, much less a dobe. I knew one couple when Herc was a puppy that wanted one. The thing is they had a chow which they gave up after having him only a couple of months because it 'wasn't the right fit for their family'. Seems they were just trying him on. I really don't get people like that.
What do you get 'tired of hearing' when walking your Dobie???

See, I can actually kinda relate to people like that. Hubby and I tried a 1 1/2 yr Dobe mix when we first got married but circumstances made us give her up after only a week. Then a little over a year before we got Spock we tried a 6 week old Basset Hound puppy but once again had to give her up. Each time it was just bad on our part and made us be 150% sure that we were ready and did our research and were as prepared as we could be when we even started thinking about another dog. And this time, the beginning was rough of course, he's the perfect fit for us and we wouldn't trade him for the world. Sometimes you're young and dumb and don't know when to tell yourself no. The important thing is that you learn your lessons.

Was walking the girls in the neighborhood here a few day ago and got that question also!
There were 4 kids around 10 to 12 yrs old outside playing and one comes up and asks that question. When I told him, he turned around and started giving his buddies grief with the, "I TOLD you so"!
I know that kid and have met his mom a few times. They own two adult (Red) Dobies... He just asked because his friends were trying to tell him that they were Rotties and he KNEW better than that.
I completely understand your circumstances. The people I was referring to were much older and already had children. They thought caring for a dog would be a good learning experience for their 'kids'. These are the same kind of people that think it's also a good experience for their children to see 'just one litter' of kittens or puppies born and use that as an excuse not to get their pets fixed. Never mind that the shelters are overflowing with these poor unwanted pets. You grew up MGW and really did your homework before you adopted Spock. I applaud you for that. These people never will, unfortunately.

Also something similar : Being in a work environment, I have ALOT of people come in and see Lexi and say..."wow you just dont see Dobermans much. I used to have one." 8 out of 10 people seem to USED to have a Doberman or so they say. Frankly I think they are just..hmm i dunno trying to make you think either their not intimidated or who know. Frankly I thing their fully of Bull (*&^ lmao
