Urinary Incontinence?

Is this mainly a problem with Dobermans? I don't think I've ever come across it with any other dogs in my lifetime. 🤷‍♀️ Never with my Pomeranians, my parents poodles or friends dogs. 🤷‍♀️ 🤔

I questioned this very thing in post #9 on this thread. If it's loss of estrogen because of spay, why isn't it all breeds?

And is it all Dobermans? Has anyone had a spayed female that never had this problem?
I don't think it is all Dobermans and I have heard of a few spayed ones who never had the problem. They say that the longer you can wait, the better but I don't think anyone knows for sure what that magic age would be, aside from over 2 years.

Something I've pondered too.

My other two Dobermans (one born early 1980's and the other born 1991) were both spayed (my '91 girl I spayed after her first heat, less than a year old, the other was an unclaimed found dog and estimated 18 months old when I got her and spayed her right away) and they never had it. I worked at a vet clinic in the '80's and don't recall any SI in the couple of years I was there with any dogs. The only incontenance issues I recall were very old dogs. Doesn't mean it wasn't there but I don't recall it at all. And it was in the era where we pushed hard for spay & neuter by 6 months of age, and it was also the time when Dobermans were very popular, so we saw lots of them. The other vet assistant had 3 Dobes.

I wonder if the change in diet and the environment can somehow make a difference?

That is a good video. Who is that lady? She looks very familiar.

Just saw a little seminar on Urinary Tract Infections and other things that can cause incontinence.

Some Glandular supplements to help spayed female to produce more natural estrogen.
They are known as Raw Gland Concentrates.
One is called Female Caps by Solaray (at health food stores) Dose is one-fourth capsule per 10# of body weight. Try it for 30days to see if its effective.

Another supplement is called Plant Sterols. Many dogs are on this supplement for allergies. But it also has ingredient betasitsterol, which is also a natural estrogen. Sold for people as it can lower cholesterol called CardioAid.
Dose of one capsule for 50# daily 400mg of beta sitosterol

Corn Silk contains phytoestrogens. 100mg per 10# daily This one comes in 1200mg capsules. Think it also comes in a powder.

You know, I was thinking about this for a while and I keep forgetting to post it. But I just was wondering if there is a remote possibility that waiting until 2 years or older to spay them is what's causing the incontinence. Maybe they should be done earlier? Just playing devil's advocate here. I mean I think about dogs like Kali who were spayed very young and are not having a problem. She's 13 years old and probably was spayed at 4 to 5 months old. We adopted her at 5 months old. Does it seem like dogs that are spayed early don't have a problem? I have nothing to back this up with. Just putting the question out there. Especially since we were all talking about how other breeds don't seem to have a problem.

I think it's worse in this breed. We had Della spayed at around 14 months and she still got it.
