Update on Brooke and her liver

Thought I would start a new chat just on Brooke and her liver problem we all been taking about now for some time well we thought we were doing good for the past 2-3 weeks with the new RAW dog diet only chicken and it’s already done that I get at the local store that only does raw food… well anyway Thursday night and I mean from about 8pm till sun up she was restless,would not lay down for no more then 5min.. so 645am on Friday I’m about to feed her she started to just walk in a tight left circle and then she goes blind I mean like walking into things and gettingstuck in places and this goes on for about 3 hours this was so scary and upsetting to watch and not know what to do

Oh, I feel so badly for you & her both. I'm no help, but will keep you both in my thoughts tonight and hope answers come somehow.

I mean anything is possible but we have her pills in one of them 7 days a week thing to make sure we give them to her and don’t forget and we have be logging everything that she does and takes for the passed 8 months

Our vet was able to see her that day and we did blood work and obviously things came back high like they been for some time now but her numbers have came down a lot since this all started years ago but the numbers from yesterday have not really changed since our previous test. Brooke has came out of it but since then she has not been herself and very sad. So the Dr thinks she might have gotten to much protein in her meal and it made her liver all backed up and wants us to change the diet a little but I s so hard cause she don’t eat anything anymore that why we had to go raw this is so hard and upsetting watching her like this and don’t wish this on anyone because your so helpless and there is not enough resources out there for this I guess just like DCM and it’s just not fair sorry so the rant need to get it out lol

Sorry if I came across as insensitive, I was brainstorming and trying to figure an easy solution.

The liver metabolizes and detoxifies the body, so that is why I came up with that. It also does protein synthesis so your vet is on a good idea there.

You're in our pack's thoughts and prayers. I hope Brooke can get enough relief to seem herself and not be sad.

It must be a sinking feeling when you're doing everything you can think of to help and then a setback like that.

It sounds like you are on the right track with documenting everything you see. It will be very helpful to your vet in determining what is causing this. Just my thoughts, but ask your vet if more frequent and smaller meals might be best. Maybe feed by hand and vary what she eats. I am so sorry you both are going through this.

Very sorry to hear about this deterioration in Brooke’s condition. If you want to keep Brooke on raw but need to reduce the protein content it’s worth considering raw green tripe.
Besides being incredibly nutritious it has a protein content of around half that of Chicken, which has the highest protein content of all meats (according to Google). I try to make it at least 50% of Luna’s diet combined with Beef, duck or oily fish but have in the past fed my dogs 100% on it.

we have been trying everything to just get her to eat but she won’t have it she was always picky and now with trying to keep protein low and get some carbs in her it’s so hard because all she wants is meat lol

When Phoebe was down at the U they gave her this and it helped. It probably wouldn't hurt to ask your vet.

Sorry have not gotten back to you all just been crazy over here.. so they gave her meds to help here eat and for the vomiting and stuff for her brain on top of the offer pills she is taking and to be honest we don’t think we are going to refill and keep going on them and just stay on the pill she is taking to help the liver and that’s it.. so her stool has become black now and most likely due bleeding and we just feel that all the meds are really making things worse and she looks like s*** after taking them so we just going to let her stop them and enjoy herself.. we just don’t know what else to do

Aww sorry to hear that. I don't blame you about discontinuing some of the meds if they make her miserable. Just giving her the one that helps the original disorder is probably better than the effects of the combo of some of the things they give you.
