UDC Conformation Show and Breed Survey 2026

Bump as a reminder this is a great way to see what goes on in person on the working side, esp if you couldnt make it to NY for UDC Nationals.

I'd especially like to see Doug Matson giving tips at Breed Survey. Hopefully some video will make it out to youtube, for those of us who cant be there in person.

The Temperament Test in UDC is a requirement to get CC. Thats going to be done by Leslie Carpenter:

@FrauDoberman So thats a higher than AKC Ch, which doesnt require the WAE to "finish" correct?
If you do pas WAE then you get a ROM, right?

but still not as high as the ZTP level in Europe, that the Breed Standard is modeled after, correct?

So this regional show in NC ought to be really good!

Obtw: talking with others retiring to FL from up north. Occasionally some move from FL to NC to escape the FL weather. They are called "Halfbacks" for moving half way back.

Others perform the "Reverse Snowbird" buying a mountain cabin...to escape the sweaty summer or bug out to in 'Caine season...😉

Like the farmers in Dakotahs or the Canucks who snowbird by renting a place in Mesa AZ to escape the dark months in winter, after the harvest is done and tractors stored in sheds...

Hmmm...making a note, here...🧐

Just curious why him?
He has been judging for years, has done bite sports under a mentor, and they have won at both show and working side repeatedly, if you go back aways on UDC shows. Also has traveled to bring in EU and SA, seems to know a lot about whats going on in German and other EU breeding world.

Kansadibes posts occasionally at the other webforum, one of a handful who do rarely. Like here, I follow what breeders say carefully.

However, I am aware that unless one is "in the fancy" and/or active in the working side, thats basically a soda straw view of the big picture.

I have no other breeder knowledge other than what I pickup reading online here and elsewhere, and reading breeder websites, so I am of course, inexperienced as to "who is best at what".

Not a fanboi per se, just reading in general that the number of people doing WAE is shrinking and if the working side is smaller in US, then I particularly am interested in what someone who can judge and do Breed Surveys has to say.

I'm aware they are getting old like the rest of us, so I want to capture that institutional knowledge wherever I can, for my learning.

Same reason I follow the up and comers like @Rits and elsewhere who strive to proof both conformation and working ability.

Is there anyone that anyone here could suggest in addition? Say 3-5 breeders who owner handle and actively campaign both sides?

One way is to look at results from shows/trials - work it back that way via pedigrees. Thats what I am chipping away at, slowly, to build my awareness of who is who in the zoo.

I'm basically collecting a list of names so I can do my due diligence on them comprehensivly before shopping for a pup.

I'm aware of the DPCA and UDC breeder referall lists. This is more about what I hear about them, and the ones not yet on those lists that are doing good/great work.

PM if you like. I'll keep those confidences/opinions confidential of course.
I can guess that some breeders prefer NOT to be discussed in public forums or are so busy they dont have time or care to reply. Results matter.

I also dont use FakeBook so I'm probably missing a lot from public and private groups there.
