Local brewery just opened and they allow dogs! The only other dog that was there belonged to the owners and thankfully I checked the place out before bringing Asha in. The dog was off leash because they'd just opened and I could tell that he was a very forward dog. I told them I'd brought my dog but I didn't think she'd do well with their dog off leash. The owner was cheerful about it and leashed him up, said he usually is leashed and behind the counter, but they'd just opened about 15 minutes earlier. But I was right. This dog could stare a hole into a wall. It's a dominance thing and Asha grumbled but stayed put and the other dog behaved but it took a good 15 minutes for them to both chill and give it up. I didn't let Asha look (stare) at him until they both settled. Then I let her watch and observe him because her body language relaxed. Reckless was there too, but because Reckless doesn't walk into a place thinking she has to own it, the dog never even looked at her, much less stared & dared. Good reminder that no matter how good my dog behaves she's still the same dog underneath it all.
And the beer was really good - I haven't had home brewed in years and the difference is amazing.

Once I learned that every little inch I gave became a permission slip to Asha, I became way more conscious of what I was doing. Just like making the decision to check out the brewery without her on leash and make my decision from there.. If I'd walked in with her on leash and that dog ran up to her off leash "being friendly" she probably would have had an outburst. I could control it quickly, but the point is to try to never let it happen.
