Summer Trip to the Mountains

Memorial day week we went to the mountains for a vacation and to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We took Ripley with us as it'd be easier on my mother to not have to watch her. We knew she would not be able to meet Ripley's exercise needs. The trip was much needed and enjoyable! We spent most of our time in Asheville, NC and the surrounding area staying near Pisgah National Forest. Super dog friendly area so including her with us was pretty easy. Loads of pics, so hopefully you guys won't mind.

We went kayaking on Rips birthday. My husband took Ripley in a canoe as they wouldn't let her on a kayak. She did good for her first time!










Afterwards we went into town to eat pizza on the patio. Ripley's first experience doing that and she was a good girl! The waitress even came out and gave her her own bowl which she drank then promptly dumped trying to play with it lol.

Then we went to Highland Brewery and spent a few hours there. We came here last fall with her and Paige and loved the outdoor meadow area so made sure to include it again. So many dogs in this town! Ripley even was a good girl and got some love from some teenage boys and a few others. Love her so...she knows more and more when to be social and when to not be. We always advocate for her and tell anyone that asks to meet her that it is up to her. We tell her to "go see" and if she doesn't seem interested we say sorry not today!

But it's even better when she can have a spot at the table too

She's a good cuddler and adapted to the tent no problem.



The next day we went to Greensboro, SC and stopped by a local pet store to grab her a birthday donut and some treats. It was her second pet store to visit for her birthday so she was ready!

She thought it was the best place ever, testing all the toys lol. The owners were super nice and encouraged it.

Went to Yee Haw Brewery for lunch in town to grab Prince's (Nashville) Hot Chicken. A new location they recently added.

Went for a hike to Hooker Falls and stopped at Bald Rock on the way. AMAZING and huge exposed rock cliff that you can walk on quite a bit very safely. Would recommend!

I loved the dalmation pics omg, so funny when they think they're real! You even had me going for a second when I thought, wow, a nose to nose meeting on leash with another dog, this doesn't seem like something they would do haha. Her eating that donut, the action shot, was just When the food goes flying I call it beasty bites! How did she like the bridge? I remember Kaiser's first bridge he kept looking down like he didn't trust it. Who doesn't love pepperoni pizza! Did she get any? I always sneak Kaiser a little bit of crust lol. Great views on that hike too!

That's the best thing, when you can take your dog along on that kind of adventure. Ripley is such a good girl.

I think she discovered they were gender neutral

The bridge was pretty wide and long but there were some people down below playing in the creek she was glancing at. She didn't seem phased by it.

I never used to feed my dogs from the table but broke that rule with Ripley. When she's being such a good girl it's really hard not to reward good behavior. She got lots of pizza crust

Speaking of that... After lunch we were walking on the sidewalk and I had Ripley in a heel scooted up against the buildings making sure not to take up more room than needed. We pass a guy standing there with his dog and not only does he not even bother pulling his dog close while we walk by in a perfect heel but he lets his dog pull more lead and his dog tries to paw Ripley's back/rear. She whipped around and let them both know right fast that that wasn't acceptable. Dude was oblivious.

That looked like an amazing trip, loved all the pictures Ripley must have had a great time, so pleased you could all enjoy it together what a great experience for Ripley so many new things to try.

Exactly our thoughts too! Great to get her out now as a youngster experiencing all these new things. She got a lot of exposure to normal people behaviors in new settings and exposure to new things that we definitely like to do that she hasn't done yet like camping. The first night camping she was confused why there were kids riding bikes down the paths or people talking in the woods but she settled down after a quick perimeter scan and a woof or two. You could really see her brain working as she studied her surroundings.

It’s so hard not to and you may even break a few more rules I went from not wanting Kaiser near the dinner table, to contemplating how to get him a seat at the dinner table Then I imagined him jumping on top of the table and that cured me
