Snow hike

The sun was out on a beautiful day, so I took Vader out for a hike in the snow. It was his first time out walking away from our neighborhood, and his first time off leash. He did great! We went about 3 miles with lots of stops for him. He was mostly walking right behind me, he actually stayed pretty close the entire time! Don't pay attention to the posts, he ran through a dirty tree and messed them up!

Great pics of Vader in the snow! Thanks for sharing :)

All 3 of my dobes never wondered very far from us. They liked to keep us in view.

Great pics!
I have one of each Princess is always off exploring and Shadow stays close. When we lived in CT we would hike in the woods and Princess would be off chasing something...and that's when I started to use the ecollar.

Great shots and a handsome boy! I'm glad he did so well.

Nice! Glad to hear Vader did so well off leash and with the snow. Pups and older dogs will often walk behind in deep snow to take advantage of the broken trail. To condition a pup to stay relatively close and aware of where I am when walking trails, I will hide behind a tree or just crouch down off the trail when the pup isn't paying attention. They're not too independent yet and will come looking for "Mom or Dad" at that age. Of course there is plenty of praise and some treats when they come looking. I still hide on Hans occasionally :) I think @JanS does this too.

@Ingrid H i always mix mychorrizhal fungi in with our soil when we do sod and in plant beds. It helps keep the nutrients in and I fertilize less. Also keeps the run off into the water from occurring.

We went out to a new trail today and had some fun. No sunshine today though :(

The best part was walking through an industrial area by the parking lot and discovering this, it's only been open a week :)

Lil' Blackpaw is looking good! Hey, utopia! Walking your Doberman and unexpectedly finding a brand new craft brewery taproom!! :dobe:  Are they dog-friendly?

I didn't word that right. I thought it was a technique you use on puppies.
I did that too. :D Especially with my first Doberman and omg, it really worked! Almost to the point of separation anxiety! I didn't do it enough with Buddy. Plus I didn't get him as a young puppy. He's pretty independent out on our 10 acres here and if he doesn't see me, no big deal. :whoop: Maybe if we were in a strange place though!

Vader has worn booties before, and removed them every time. I only have 2 left! He seems happier without them. He's only been cold a few times, usually when we are going slow and stopping to chat. He feet never seem to bother him. When off leash he's pretty much within 3 feet of me. He'll run a bit(10 yards) ahead, but stop and wait for me to catch up before going again. Even when we meet other dogs he stays pretty close.

The snow on the tree is just snow. The wind made the odd patterns. It was like that all over the forest.

No dogs in that brewery, but some allow them. I need to go to one.....for socialization ;)
