Roombas and dogs: Do they get along?

It’s Costco so I think it can be returned for a year. Haven’t had to return anything so late in a while so I will check the receipt. The s9 price looks to be just $100 more than the i7 so I would rather have the newer one.
Can't wait to see what you think. I'm not ready to run out and get it just yet. ;) This one does sound like it cleans carpet really well. With the higher volume of suction, I'm curious to see how much louder it is. Not that that is a deal-breaker for me. :) Just curious. So far I am very happy with the two I have. We have a nice routine going.

Can't wait for your review! :glasses:

DeSoto has just been introduced to our robo-vac. He sure doesn’t love it, but he’s at least not terrified of it. Although last night, I came in with him from the pet boutique and he barely got his snout past the threshold and he zipped right out at the sound of it going lol! I had to carry him in bc there was quite a bit of baking soda carpet freshener (“sprinkled” by an over-enthusiastic hubby—he used half the container! :rp:) so he was content to be in the dining room where he could both hide and observe at his leisure, haha!

He soon realized I wasn’t going to coddle him over it and fell asleep.

Haha, nothing special. It’s called the bObsweep Junior Pet vacuum. It’s just some off brand vac for the light daily/every other day needs. Our home is small and a full charge gets the whole house well enough when we need it. I have back issues so sweeping and vacuuming with a heavy vacuum even for a few minutes can really flare up my sciatica. We’ve had it for just under a year now, I think. Got a good Groupon discount for it. It does what it needs to do, but is in no way a heavy duty deep cleaner, and we weren’t willing to spend a ton for one either lol. We still use a regular vacuum for that.

Interesting! I've never heard of the bobsweep but it sounds like it does a good job for you. Probably very basic but sometimes that's all somebody wants or needs. That's one thing that's really nice about these robots is for people with back problems and can't get around or even the elderly. I know a lot of us get them simply to save time but I can certainly see getting one for Grandma who is either bedridden or just can't get around like she used to. It doesn't even have to have all the bells and whistles. Just something to keep the dust bunnies at Bay. :)

That's one of the first things my chrio told me back when I first started having severe problems - no vacuuming.

I checked Costco and the new S9 is $1649 :wtf: Best Buy had it on sale for $1300, but returning things to them is much harder. I can’t have a nearly $1700 vacuum lol, that I can’t return if something goes wrong - that’s just crazy! I’ll stick with the i7.

Its too bad the new one can't use the the same base as the i7, then at least you didn't have to buy both and it would be a bit cheaper. But it looks like they upgraded the tower too with a better filter.

Oh well, I'm happy with what I have right now. It has all the bells and whistles that I need.

Gosh, I cleaned my filter the other day from my i7 and, wow, a lot of stuff came out of there! I was trying to look back on here to see when I last cleaned it. Geez, I hope it wasn't May 17th. :wideyed: That's when I posted it on here. I can't believe I want that long. :blush-alt: I guess it's easy to do when the thing takes care of itself. ;)

@Kaiser2016 Did you ever get that blower? I'll tell you I don't know what I would do without that thing! I love it! I use it many times throughout the week just blowing leaves off the deck or blowing the mulch back off the sidewalk that the dogs kicked up and of course using it to clean my filters on my Roombas! When I cleaned the filter from the i7 I swear stuff came out of there for like 30 seconds! :goodjob: Seems like it was going to go on forever lol I would never get that much stuff out of it by just tapping it on the side of the garbage can. No way. I'm sure it makes the filter last longer. :thumbsup2:

What timing, I just cleaned the whole thing last night after IT cleaned the whole main floor while we watched TV!

No I didn’t get the blower, I have been using the Dyson vacuum (for the carpeted stairs) to keep the Roomba parts clean. For the filter, it seems pretty sturdy to withstand the suction power of the vacuum, but I was using compressed air before that. Only drawback there is that I need to be outside as there is such fine dust in the filter! Blowing it indoors is messy. At least when I’m outside I can blow it with the wind direction so I don’t end up in a cloud of skin cells haha.

Did you see the new app update includes “keep out zones”? Curious to see how they work out with the room dividers. The Roomba is so diligent about cleaning under the dining table, it carefully goes around each table leg and chair leg, spaces I used to ignore or avoid lol, but it does end up spending a lot of time under the table which I might turn it into a keep out zone.

Oh God, yes. I always do it outside. Why blow that all back into your clean house? ;)

No, I did not! It does so well on its own, I hardly look at it anymore LOL I just recently put on the Smart Maps. Since my house is split in two with one Roomba doing one side and the other doing the other side, I didn't turn it on simply because it really wasn't my whole house. But it's mostly all the carpeted area so I finally thought what the heck? And it's kind of cool. I sent it off to do one room just to see how it did and it was awesome!

But I'll have to look at that keep out section. Right now I have 4 invisible walls. Two came with the first Roomba, one came with the i7 and one I bought separately. Two walls separate my house for the two roombas, one keeps it out of my sunroom, and one keeps it away from a corner floor lamp that is Chrome. The Roomba was trying to get around it and was climbing all over it and scratching it. I said, no, no!:nono:

There's not really any other areas that I don't want her in, but I will still investigate that new future.:purps:

Oh, gosh, that's the beauty of it! I don't care if she's spending a lot of time in there, she's cleaning! I wouldn't keep her out of there. Maybe you can program her to avoid it occasionally but isn't it nice that she does such a good job on something that you've usually avoided?:p I love when she goes around all the chairs. My kitchen chairs are on rollers and she goes in and around the star shape of the legs very well. Every once in awhile I will pull out one side of the chairs to make sure she goes under the table. I'm always tucking the chairs into the table so sometimes she can't actually get under there. But I love how well she cleans it! :thumbsup2:

I use the smart mapping quite a bit so I can send it to targeted areas when I want, like the kitchen after cooking.

I forgot about the invisible walls. I have 1 or 2 that came with mine but thought they would only be necessary if I wasn’t using the maps - which, once mapped, you can set up room dividers. Will have to look into that, maybe the invisible wall will give me exact control whereas the virtual room dividers aren’t precise when you are dividing an open layout.

I like that it cleans under the table, but I just don’t want it everyday. I like to run the Roomba daily haha. No fur on my floors!
It has on occasion followed my hb around - he swears this thing has Velcro tendencies :spit:

I love to come back here and see when I posted the last time is I cleaned out the filter on my i7! It's been a month. :wideyed: I cleaned it out yesterday and, OMG, the stuff that came out of it was incredible.! And it's amazing how long I was using my blower on it and still, stuff was coming out. It doesn't sound like a long time but I'll bet you I held the blower up to that filter for about 20 seconds or so. And still, stuff was coming out! Amazing. Then I blew out the actual Dustbin. You'd be surprised what came out of there too even though it empties itself. Then I turned it over and blew out the wheels and rollers. I took the rollers out and again, oh my God, a lot of my hair wrapped around the end of those rollers. Not the middle of the roller part; just on the ends. I should have taken a picture! What's wrong with me? :confused-alt: lol

But anyway, it's still doing an awesome job and I'm still a happy camper about my purchases. I plan on taking good care of it.;)

I was going to update this thread over the weekend when I pulled out the other vacuums to do the carpeted stairs. After I was done, I decided to do some maintenance on all of them and I ended up vacuuming all my vacuums WITH all my vacuums :thumbsup2: Then wiping them all down with vinegar for a nice dust free look. Used the Miele to clean up all the Roomba parts plus filter. Used the Dyson to clean all the filters on everything else. It was way easier and cleaner to use the vacuum instead of the compressed air I was using previously. I also discovered the Dyson has a filter - oops! - that has never been cleaned! It was cold water rinse only and it was no where near as filthy as I was expecting.

The Roomba bag was almost full and I need to buy some more so I thought let’s try to buy some time by vacuuming the contents of the Roomba bag! I used the pointy attachment on the Dyson and it sucked the bag almost clean, but it filled the Dyson canister 3 times  The canister is huge. So this speaks highly for the Roomba bag capacity and durability. It also tells me that I need to comb the cat more often :spit:
