Reputable Doberman kennels/breeders

Hi all,

I have been interested in bringing a Doberman into my family for a while now and am researching the breed as well as how i would acquire a cropped and docked Doberman in the UK.

As I have been researching into getting one imported it appears all the threads are all old now. I have come across a few known kenells like Liparland but it seems there now really active anymore.

I was wondering if there is still active kennels that are helpful with getting docked and cropped dobermans. I was also interested in the process on how it works if anyone has had any experience with and also how much they cost nowadays. I see a few years ago they appeared to be going for £2k-£3k but unsure now and presuming this has increased by a decent amount.

Any help on the above is much appreciated, i understand this forum seems to be mainly US based so if i'm asking in the wrong place it would be appreciated if you could direct me to somewhere that could better help me.

Not really since we have many members from the UK and many other countries.

Liparland does produce beautiful pups and I have had quite a few friends with pups from there. The problem was 8-10 years ago quite a few lost them to DCM, but that doesn't seem as prevalent these days.
There is another from Serbia called Posterior something who a friend had a couple dogs from and they're doing very well but I don't know how active they are anymore either. .

Are you looking for a puppy? If not, rescue may be a way to go for you.
I could be wrong but I think I heard that importing into the UK is difficult because the dog is held for some time before being allow to enter. That may have been a covid thing or something, not sure. Maybe start with the shipping process and see how long it takes to get the dog in the country.

I know Delta and many other airlines stopped taking pets cargo during covid. I'm not sure if they've started again but as it was when I was working at the airport, the dog had to be on the plane with you. I also think you're right about it being difficult in some countries and the UK might be one.

Didn't they start quarantining pups for months before they were allowed to enter? I thought I saw that somewhere? I could be wrong because sometimes I just have too many tabs open in my brain. :spit:

Certain countries did even before covid but I can't remember which ones. I'm sure you remember Vera had transport to get across the border but I can't remember which country she went to now. In other words, my memory is terrible. LOL

Have you tried talking to well known and current breeders in the UK? Do you have the equivalent of AKC there? Or a breed club under it, like the DPCA here in the US?

ok nvm; just for fun I used Grok:

"
- Overview: The Dobermann Club is recognized as the national club for the Doberman breed in the UK. It focuses on fostering and promoting the interests, welfare, and good name of the Doberman, emphasizing its heritage as a working dog.
- Activities and Reach: The club organizes significant events such as two breed shows per year and maintains facilities like a training and showground in Digswell, Hertfordshire. It also supports a broad membership base, offering opportunities for Doberman owners to connect, access reputable breeders, and engage in activities like IPO/IGP (a working dog sport).
- Reputation: It positions itself as a central hub for Doberman enthusiasts, with a strong emphasis on health, breeding standards, and community engagement, which aligns with the role of a primary breed club.

### Other Notable Clubs
While The Dobermann Club stands out as the national representative, other regional clubs exist and contribute significantly to the breed’s community:
- North of England Dobermann Club (NEDC): Founded in 1964, it’s one of the oldest Kennel Club-approved Doberman breed clubs in the UK, focusing on the northern region.
- South East of England Dobermann Club (SEEDC): Established in 1985, it serves Kent, Surrey, Sussex, and Hampshire, with a wide membership and offerings like affordable heart testing (e.g., 24-hour Holter hire).
- UK Dobermann Association (UKDA): An independent group affiliated with the International Dobermann Club (IDC), it emphasizes working qualities, health, and reducing rescue cases, hosting events like IGP taster days."
