Removing the baby gate

We tether him to the railing before going for a walk. It's easier to get him ready that way too - jacket, prong, etc. He gets so excited seeing my hb put on his boots that he starts to interfere with him lacing up which makes my hb mad which doesn't help anyone so the tethering is necessary. If I'm standing there I ask Kaiser to 'back up' from my hb which also works. My hb just doesn't say the right commands because he makes the assumption that Kaiser should know better lol.

With the baby gate coming off, he now shows interest in going up the stairs as high as the leash will allow. In the pics I did allow him to stay longer so I could take the pic. Once I took the pic I told him 'off' and he came down.

I'll try using the tethered time to get him to stay off the stairs and work on focussing on me instead. Eventually I'd like to not tether him there either, but baby steps I guess.
I see! Ours get crazy too. I would start implementing what GG is trying to say. Sit back down and completely ignore him until he either stands still, sits calmly, or downs with no command. He will catch on quick that being rambunctious makes you do the opposite of what he wants!

These Dobes are so smart...GOING OUTSIDE......Grace knows when we are going out by the shoes I wear...(flip flops inside)...as soon as she sees me get the shoes, the Zoomies start...That's when I sit back down and shake my head and ignore her till she sits on her place...I don't know if the Zoomies will ever stop, but we go no where till they do...I've got this!...:D
Rise Rise Rise....ahahahahahaha
Hm. I will try asking him to 'place' instead of tethering. He does place properly when I come home and he's pretty excited at that time as well.

I thought I was the only one that didn't allow their pup on the carpeted stairs... mine loves to chew it so I dont let him on any carpet just yet maybe when he gets older and understands no means no

The good thing about a forum this big is that you're bound to find someone who is doing the same thing you are, and you get to find out that it's not destroying your dog :D I had gotten some feedback locally that I was denying Kaiser his protective instincts by not letting him sleep with me  Uhhhh nooooo.
