Like my dogs always around when shooting
had a English Springer spaniel years ago she’d lay by the shooter almost think she was asleep someone would miss a clay she take off and bring unbroken clay back to the the thrower she just knew broken not broken
I had zest so he pick up my empty shells from semi auto and basically hand them to me nice I didn’t have to bend over to pick them up from ground. He caught one right from gun must of got hot spot he’ll just point them on the ground now

The more I see of GSP's the more I want one. Except I promised myself I need to get a lower drive dog next time...
In one way that would be sort of boring but I have had that same thought too as we get older. A Great Dane has always been high on my list but at the same time a groomed or hairless Chinese Crested is up there too. I just don't want an unclipped fluffball if you don't get the hairless or semi hairless.

That's always been my thought but our trainers Dane lived to about 11 and my daughters lived to 12+ years.

Affenpinscher for me when I'm ready for a little old lady dog. I'll just stick to the German dogs, being a good kraut meself.

"Little cute monkey dog" was my first impression then...I prefer dogs that have a job: stable dogs, catching rodents.
Curious, apologies to mods if I go "too far OT", but have you begun any research on breeders, or have one in mind given your own long experience in breeding those "little cat dogs?"

I like that the breed has been developed since 1800's. Like dobes if you do your homework you can narrow the search on what temperament, health, longevity, behavior if well trained....
I love rescues but thats more of a "life's a box-a-chocalates" kinda deal.

There are few listed breeders. I talked to one at a show last year who is outside of Denver. There is another north of Orlando, FL who I wanted to visit when we were going to go to FL in April. That trip has been postponed until hopefully November, and I will try to get in touch w/ her before then if we still plan to go. Litters are small, few and far between. Not a lot of demand for them, as they're not a popular breed. So I expect to wait a few years at least before I could get one. That's fine, as we are not in a position to get a second dog right now anyway. I want to be around them first though, more than just meeting one. If they are brachycephalic, snootly dogs then it's all off the table. I don't want a dog that snores and reverse-sneezes.
The coat doesn't require a lot of care. I like their scruffy look and apparent big personalities! Definitely better longevity than dobermans, far fewer health issues. Typical lifespan about 15 years. Temperament very bold and willing to please, not hard to obedience train. I'd probably still do rally.
