Random Pet Photo of the Day - 2025

I had a friend over who knows nothing about dogs...complete cat person. She wanted Glory's attention, so continued to make weird noises at her....A. Don't make the dog not trust you. B. She will start barking at you if you continue the bizarre behavior. I told her she needed to ignore her, and let Glory come to her. As soon as she did; Glory got on the couch and snuggled close to her. She was so thrilled :) IMG_8597.webp

Yup that's what I tell people too and to just have a chair and let the dog come to them. These two are pretty good but with Phoebe coming home during covid, she just wasn't exposed to many people so she was cautious when they were able to start coming over.

The city my big shop is in goes out of their way to make it hard for their USPS workers in that most of the mailboxes are installed on the homes or businesses instead on a pole mounted box down by the street so as to make it more easy on the postal person delivering mail.

Great majority of the time those mailboxes are installed right by the front door.

I don't understand any of the logic there about how making the mail person stop and park their vehicle and then get out and walk through every yard / property to deliver the mail to a spot right by their door was somehow efficient or an otherwise 'good idea'...

The building the shop is in has a mail slot on the front door to the main entrance and a mail box by the rear door (pretty much everyone uses the rear box / area for deliveries of any mail / packages.

Mail box is on the other side of the wall in the top left corner of this picture -

My former USPS guy there was scared to death of black dogs and would try to 'sneak' stuff into the mailbox. It never worked and the girls always heard him.

New USPS lady is freaking cute AND does not seem to be nervous around dogs in any way. :)

That baby gate is placed where it is so Agatha does NOT scare that lady off!

Heh. Thats a good looking HornDog.

Ya, my old houses in more traditional suburban neigborhoods have all had mailboxes or mail slots on the front door.

The HOA mailbox at end of street used to get broken into every so often by tweakers looking for SSA checks or credit cards,

or the postal carrier in a hurry forgets to shut the madter frame to a "click"...so thats the downside there IMHO.

So, Thats why the PostMan gets paid the big bucks to get a nice walk in the sun every day.,,

Now, I once had a big GSD Rescue that it took me awhile to train to understand it was NOT his job to go through the screens to kill that evilllll bag lady or man...🧐

I gave the PostMan treats and a box to leave the mail in at the far end of the sidewalk,

and treats to BigJunkyardDog Wannabe once trained to do introductions nicely... the AKC CGC has a routine for that you can find on youtube.

Then the Postman was BigDogs best friend cuz treats! Every one else was VERBOTEN, ok to bark, but
no going thru screens allowed!

Now ask me about those nice old folks- Jehovah Witnesses...so patient! And fearless!

LOL so true. I have nothing against them but I'd rather not have them coming to the door. Now that we have the fenced in yard with Doberman signs they will pull up and honk the horn from the other side of the fence. :D

Me too. Nicest folks ever, and patient training devices for the GSD, to learn "be nice...".

I don't know what it is about me but I swear those people home in on me like moths to a flame.

Every pump at the gas station can have someone at it but when the car with the JW's pulls up - I am always the only one they approach.

I always tell them the same thing - "Seeing as how I never go anywhere without my girls - Is they welcome to come too?"

Exception being the grocery store. I wont take any dogs of mine there ever. If they had any idea that so much tasty stuff was in a place like that just laying around or stacked up everywhere and saw people just walking up and taking whatever they wanted - They would bail on me instantly and want to go live at the grocery store. :(

Other than the 'Come back with a Warrant' sign on the actual door - I don't do 'dog specific' warning signs for liability reasons. At the big shop have generic 'No Trespassing' signs posted in multiple locations outside the building. You can't pull be anywhere outside on the property and not be able to see one.

Somebody knocked on the door a few nights ago when I was in the shower. I 'guess' somebody knocked. Didn't actually hear that part myself cause of the shower running and all but I DID hear the little butt go nutso with the barking which then 'caused' fat girl to join in and go nutso with the barking...

I got to admit that shit was impressive! If I knocked on somebodys door and heard that sort of barking coming from the inside I would turn my butt around before anyone could open the door and that stuff possibly get out! :)

Nope! Don't need to borrow a stick of butter any more! :)
