We go to one in PA in the poconos. About 1.5 hours away, but so worth it. It’s I believe from the 1940s and they do a nice job keeping in going. Pepper was awesome and loved it!
One of my horse friends recommended these fly boots. She's had hers for a few years now and she said they still are good. They stay up well and have a long strip of Velcro so it's easily and quickly put on. There's a "stay" built-in that keeps them from drooping and it's not fitted so it is not tight on the leg. That keeps it from rubbing. I had a brand new pair of some other ones but I wasn't crazy about them and they tore easily. And they actually had three horizontal strips of Velcro for closing, which was actually a PITA. This one long strip seems so much easier.
The flies have been bad lately. They usually start around the end of July. Up until then there's hardly any flies. Now they're kind of a nuisance. So even though I got these late in the year I think we're still going to get some good use out of them.
When Cheyenne first started walking off, she was walking similar to a dog with boots on LOL but she got used to it real fast.

I ran out of places to hang ribbons so I took the valance down and used the rod as a ribbon hanger. LOL I've been wanting that valance off for a while anyway since it was dry clean only and filthy.

So flies will eat up their lower legs? Why there and not other places?
Maybe because it's thinner skin? I'm not sure, but the legs, especially from the knee down, are the worst. That and their face. Around the eyes probably for the moisture. And in their ears. And around their face there is flies and also gnats. We call them gnats but I think someone told me they call them black flies.
Whatever they are, they are small, in abundance and so annoying. If you ever saw the swarm of gnats around their face you would know why horse people use fly masks. Those gnats are a pain in the butt ! Sometimes when I let them in for the evening, as they run past me to go into the barn I'm swatting at the gnats coming off of them ! 
Even for us working out in the garden sometimes they can be really bad. They're just annoying!And I don't believe it's because we have horses. I always remember when we had the concrete guys here putting pouring concrete in our pole barn. That was put up even before the house was finished and before we had horses. The guys were in there having such a hard time with them that they sent somebody into town for some bug spray!
I spray bug spray on my horses almost everyday during bug season. It's terrible. I hate to do it because it's a chemical but when I go out there and see their legs covered in flies or see them stomping their feet and shaking their head because of everything by their face, there's no way I would allow that. But I tried another pair of leg wrappings that were a pain to take on and off and then actually rubbed a raw spot on their leg. Which of course makes it worse because it draws flies
so I didn't want to use them anymore. Until my friend recommended these. So I thought I'd give them a try. She said she leaves them on and doesn't take them off unless she's riding or just checking them. She said it's never rubbed and made them sore. I left them on for a few days now but I'm going to check them soon.
A horses tail is it's flyswatter, tail can't reach lower legs - especially the front legs - or their head/ears/neck. They have to stomp their feet or sling their head or rub on something to dislodge biting flys.

Would Wondercide work to repel them? I hadn't tried Wondercide yet when we had horses but I would think it would be okay for horses too if you can use it on dogs.
I have used wondercide on the horses! I have a bottle of both in the barn. Sometimes I grab the fly spray which is Pyranha and sometimes the Wonderside. So I have done both. I also spray my barn and horse stalls with Wonderside. I use it a lot. Everywhere. My back deck, the screen's on my doors anywhere I can use it I do. I have the concentrate that I mix in a battery powered sprayer and also the one that attaches to your hose to do your lawn and garden. And then I have the regular handheld bottle and peppermint the spray on the dogs and horses. Yeah I should be a spokesman for them!

I had cleaned this whole room, didn't find a single dog chew while doing it, brought the mini Aussie inside and turned my back for two minutes and all of a sudden he had a whole pile in the middle of the room

Probably not the most flattering photo of either of us lol. We went to a 4 day show on Labor Day weekend. No luck with points but he did win reserve twice! I have some more shows coming up, so I’ll update his show thread with everything after those.
We had a few days of “false fall” so we finally went to the beach. Despite living really close I don’t go there much in the warmer months. It’s too crowded and Remy can’t come (too hot and limited hours dogs are allowed during the summer anyways)
