A beautiful morning after an all day rain yesterday. Clouds early in the morning and breaking up now. Looks like full sun. Corral is a flooded mess so out to the pasture they go! With our sand the water should be down quite a bit today. Especially with the stiff breeze we've got going on.

AJ and I were in Maryland for three days of trials. We were hosted by a wonderful lady, Penny, who has a house on twenty acres in the woods. It's muzzle loading season in Maryland, so her son and some friends were out in the woods early Saturday morning when I got up.

It was still dark when I took AJ out the front door, walked all the way around to the back of the large house, put AJ in the run, went back inside to clean up and get dressed. When I come out of the shower, AJ was running around the house, so I assumed Penny brought him in.

After I got dressed, I saw Penny and she said she saw AJ in the driveway near the front door, so she opened it and he ran in! I went to see the chain link fence gate and the latch was opened and up in the stay-open position. AJ somehow figured out how to open it. I gave a very fervent prayer of thanks that AJ came around the house to the front door instead of wandering off into the woods!

I know the latch was down in the closed position because it is heavily painted and requires a bit of pressure to close it. I hope AJ doesn't do the same thing with the latches at home, now that he learned the trick.

Kali and I went down our long driveway to get the mail. Any time we do that, I always stop her a good distance from the road and make her stay. I never let her come down to the road with me. I never want her to learn that she could be on/near the road. So today when we walked down I looked to see where she was and was surprised that she was already in a 'stay' on her own, far from the road. Further away then I usually would have stopped her. But what a good girl!

I found out there was no mail but looking down the road I can see the mail lady coming so I waited by the end of the driveway. I reiterated 'stay!' to Kali because I know she loves people and this would be enticing! When the mail lady pulled up and saw Kali she said, "Do you have a puppy in training?" I said, "No, LOL she's 11 years old." And I turned to look at her and she had moved down the driveway about 20 ft, tail wagging a mile a minute until, I yelled 'stay!' I told the mail lady she's just not supposed to be close to the road but she sees a person and, Oh my God. "They're here for me right, Right,?? really? right? right? She's here to see me! Can I come, can I come?? "No, you just stay put!" LOL she can't help it she's a people person. :p:D

Moo will lay in the mudroom/laundry room when it's hot outside to get the cool tiles on his belly but... I can't image that's an issue in Canada right now :D
Ya it's cooled down here a lot (we have snow) and the house isn't exactly warm. His cooling position would also be to lay on his side, not upright like this.

Something similar to this would be the first thing I see from my Berner if he's anxious about something that I haven't figured out yet or helped solve for him. Otherwise who knows, maybe it's a place where there is a concentration of the whole family's scents and he just enjoys it? I'm sure you'll have a light bulb moment together at some point.:speechless: (And it will probably be neither of my thoughts) Dobermans, im learning, can do the most random things and I love them for it.

That must be it! That's dirty laundry in the basket and there is a shoe rack on the left side of the pic. The big white Nellie's bucket has my hb's boots laying on it because he just wore them all day. Ordinarily, we finish the laundry and return the basket to the upstairs, but we're both dithering on doing the laundry lol so it has continued to sit there for days. Ok, now I'm motivated to do the laundry and see if he stops hanging out in that room.

Our lucky day! A friend found a meat processor that is crazy busy in hunting season and gave her a huge bucket of bones and scrap from elk he's processing. It was way more than what her dogs could use and her freezer was full, so she gifted us some! Asha worked on this for a several hours today and there's still meat clinging to it. I have cautioned against weight bearing bones so after she gets it really clean I'll toss it before she tries to break the bone down. I put all the meat scraps through the grinder and now have about fifty 3 oz. patties in the freezer to add to her raw meat meals. Plus I was told they'd have more next week! Woot!
