Poor Stella Kitty!

Hey, All!

I need some advice on how to approach this situation. Rubie loooooves Stella Kitty. But not in a cute way...

Stella has been keeping herself in the basement since we brought Rubie home in March. She'll sit at the bottom of the basement stairs and stare up at Rubie through the baby gate. Rubie will stand there and either be statue still (I think trying to trick Stella into thinking she's not there?) or will pace and whine excessively. If she catches Stella Kitty out and about, all bets are off and she turns into a screeching monster and Stella is basically bolting to the nearest kitty hiding spot.

My parents have a cat who is VERY dog tolerant. That being said, Rubie did decide to put him in her mouth once or twice last time we were there. Since he isn't bothered by dogs, he basically just let Rubie come up to him, she stood over him, and then just kinda put him in her mouth. She didn't hurt him but he doesn't have any front claws so there was no lesson to be learned for her.

Is there anyway to get her to a point where she will ignore Stella Kitty and let her roam the house in peace? My last Dobie adored Stella. Since Rubie is still in a crate at night, Stella will come out and visit us but disappears at soon as she hears the crate open in the morning.

Rubie is 10.5 months old and we do use a prong collar and treats for training, depending on what we're working on. I just need to know how to teach her that Stella Kitty is not to be chased. At the dog park, Rubie has learned that little dogs can be chased but no teeth (I HATE when people bring their little dog onto the big dog side of the park, but that's another issue).

Kinda just want to put them both in a round room and let them duke it out but probably not the best idea  If we can't get them to co-exist, then so be it, but I do want to try!

I am having a similar problem with my dobie girl and her yorkie brother. She aggravates him to no end. She starts out by licking him, then nose pokes, he shows teeth and then she mushes him with her paw. She doesn't hurt him but I know he hates it. He gets so angry and she thinks it funny. I am going to really start using the prong collar a lot more around the house, I think it will help. She can be such a BRAT!!

My boyfriend had a dog with his ex and still picks hers up to spend a week or so with us once a month (Stella Puppy, funnily enough) and Rubie was pretty relentless with her at first when she came around but I think she's FINALLY learning that Stella the bulldog is not a threat and is nice to snuggle with. A 6 year old Bulldog and a 10 month old Doberpup are about as opposite as you can get with energy levels, though :woot2:

I'm having the same issues with my cat and Mischa... it's been 15 months... lol Penny has even drawn blood, because I decided to let her teach Mischa a lesson still no help.

Funny about Stella puppy... we have the same scenario here! (Well, similar) when we moved in together, his mom took his dog because we weren't sure how he'd be with kids. after about 6 months we started slowly, they got along great but his mom is attached to scooby so they have "shared custody" now haha she'll get him for a few days to a week at a time.

We also have this issue. Skittles isnt scared of the dog, he will yowl, smack and even bite Nero. All to no avail. I've taken to having a prong on him and correcting chasing or "over friendliness" with the cat. The main issue isnt even being mouthy, its chasing Skittles when he runs. :/

You could try an e collar?

My wife's lab Barley s almost 15 and what we thought was docile. He is very toy dominant now that Vader is here. If Vader even looks at a toy across the room, Barley will growl and snap at him and run over and grab the toy. He will nearly attack when they are close, so lots of intervention so far.

We've thought about an e-collar for different issues but it's not something I've ever used so would definitely need to have someone show me. I think the lady who did our CGC class uses them on her dogs... We've been trying to get back to just some basic obedience (to keep Rubie on her game and occupied) but just haven't been able to. Maybe I'll make myself go this week, come hell or high water, and touch base with her. Rubie is great with 'leave it' at home but conveniently forgets it when we're at the dog park and can get very possessive of things that aren't even hers! Thank you, all :)
