[emoji1] I truly enjoy being here. I love that someone will see things differently than I.

It is seeing things differently that allows everyone to learn or expand our perceptions. Not everyone will agree with everyone and that is part of the beauty of a forum.

Another says board and train is the only way.

I certainly disagree with this trainer - I have heard too many horror stories about dogs being sent of for training and made much worse. If anyone is going to train my dog then I want to be there to know exactly what is going to be done and that I approve. I did send Helio off a couple years ago but I had worked one on one with the trainer and knew Helio would be fine. But normally I don't recommend sending dogs off. When they come home you still don't know how to work with them so any help must be a team effort. Trainer owner and dog working together.

Ingrid you are very wise and truly have a huge heart to accept the responsibility for Ladybug. She is one luck girl!!

I so agree with this. I want our trainer to train us how to handle situations with the dogs so we know what to do all the time so we work together and after she leaves we've gained some knowledge and don't have to rely on her to come running over as soon as something arises.

Until we found our trainer we were totally struggling to handle Boris because he did have fear and insecurity issues. Within 5 minutes of handing her his leash she had him walking around like a trained OB dog. Most good trainers can do that, so the important part is showing the owners the methods to accomplish it.

This is so true Jan. I have people who ask me to train there dogs all the time. I tell them that they are the ones who need the training not there dog. The biggest problem I see teaching is handlers that are unsure of themselves. You must be confident in what you are doing, this will help your dog relax and follow your direction. Fearful dogs need a strong leader, you definitely dinner want to baby this kind of dog. Be a strong, positive and patient leader.
