I dunno but he is starting to behave so much better now.:fingersx:
He is 8 months now and we have noticed how quiet he can be and how good he listens to us.
Is this cuz he is getting older...or am I just dreaming??? :feedback:
This only started like overnight almost.. omg

Oh btw here are a few more pics of my now...good dog????

LOL, sometimes it does scare us when they start behaving, doesn't it? ;) I agree he's probably getting out of his teenage stage where he wants to challenge you, but that doesn't mean they're always going to be perfect angels until they're mature. :)

As I read your post Jan, I hear Tony fighting with Kato........hahaha you are soooooooooo right!!! Gotta go save the day.....see ya all laterssssssssss

Thanks, for posting this, we just hit the 7 month mark and my little boy who was so obedient has become a monster fighting me every step of the way. He needs to STOP.

Welcome to the teenage phase. You have several more months of this before he calms down. This is the time we start encouraging things like the Nothing in Life is Free (NILIF) methods.

Yes, I am a professional dog trainer. I have been using this program since he was 8 weeks old. I have just never had the chance to use it on one of my dogs, and Luca is the first large breed puppy I have ever had, and most likely the last. I have quickly realized that my health problems with balance and shoulder/neck pain are just too great to be trying to handle another puppy like this again. I usually train other people to train their dogs, or work with older rescue dogs that are well past the puppy stage and we are working on manners and such in their new home. I have also done some work with competition obedience dogs, but this is not where his issues lie.

He has started to whine on downs, want to bolt through the house like a bat out of hell, pick on the older dog and get the little dog very angry at him, bark in the crate, and not come when called. We have taken several steps back in the training program and started all over again with him on leash in the house, and on a long line in the back yard. I have to use a prong with him because my upper body strength is not what it used to be. He seems to respond well to it, but I have a feeling that he knows that I am not the pack leader I should be, and he is going to try and take full advantage of that.

On average, when does this "teenager" phase fizzle out?

Just wait until he gets older ;) I'm really falling for Hans now that he's 5. I always loved him, but there's something better about him now that he's matured.

Kato was a bad boy tonight.. ups and downs of living with a teenager again......omgggggggggggg grow up Kato..NOW:pullhair:
He is always trying to be the Alpha male in the family.. but Tony is winning this one.. with me he does not even try..I am the B..with the itch and he knows it.. ok nuff said.. I still love the brat...lol

Caloni, I think, he thinks he is in competition with you..the Alpha male thingy.. sounds like a bit of the same as what we have going here........:goodluck:

We have had the same issues with Kunnar. It appears like he is on his way out of it now but he is still being a brat here and there. We have started agility training with him just the beginner stuff which he seems to like! He isn't fond of the tunnel so we are working through that as well with him!

I was going to say that my 9 month old puppy is going though the I do not need you that much any more phase. So he is going on the NILIF program now. It is working a little after just starting it but still have a long ways to go with it.

Yeah, around 8 months they seem to calm down and start listening but sometimes between one and 18 months they start to test again because they start to come into themselves and become more confident, more adult minded and less puppy minded. However, not all of them do this. It does help if you stay consistent with training throughout this time so they really don't get a chance to test you. Often I find when they start to settle down and listen people get more lax on training and that is when they start to test again.

Usually around 18 months to 2 years old. Especially around 2 years old, they can completely change in personality for the better. However, males will also feel more confident and dominant with other dogs especially but possibly with people too.

I can't wait to be able to go on walks. I didn't want to neuter him till he was older, but I might have to if he keeps pressing his luck.
