Need help on deciding. Blue Buffalo Wilderness VS TOTW Bison?

I am trying to compare 2 foods and have heard lots of good things about both, nothing specific. Just that its a 4 star food and its good for the dogs. But I am trying to figure out what brand is better or if someone can tell me why is 1 better then the other? I know that both are good but I just would like to know why is one better then the other. Currently I am feeding my 3 month old puppy with Blue Buffalo wilderness chicken. And she does not finish her plate. I'm thinking maybe she does not like it? I feed her 2 cups in morning, 2 cups at lunch and 2 cups at evening. She usually leaves half a cup to 1 cup and does not finish. She also eats a little and goes and plays little and on and off till I take the food away 25-35 min. later. Is that okay?

The Blue Buffalo brand as a whole has been known to cause kidney issues when fed long term and it has had several recalls over the years. I would go with TOTW for those two reasons alone, plus I feel it's a better food in general.

If a puppy is walking away from a full bowl that means you are feeding too much and you should cut her back. If she gets hungry, you can always up her again. I would cut back the amount she is leaving and see how she does.

Totally fine with picking up her bowl after a while. I use 15 minutes as a rule, but whatever timeframe works for you is fine.

If you do change her over to TOTW make sure the change is slow.

I was going to say the same about it probably being a bit much if she's not finishing it, and I use the 15 minute rule as well.

We feed the TOTW High Prairie and have had great results with it. I've also heard lots of reports of dogs getting excess gas on the BB.

Most doberman breeders do not recommend blue buffalo - due the issues Archer stated. I personally know of 3 dobermans that had serious kidney issues and when taken off the BB they did recover.

I've never fed BB but have heard (here on the Forum) of these issues. What the heck is in it that is causing kidney issues and why isn't it off the market??

Our two grown dobies eat 2 cups twice a day of TOTW. She's still growing so she might want/need more than that but I agree that it's probably just more food than she can eat as opposed to a taste preference. Is that the recommended amount on the bag? Our two get about 30 mins to eat, mainly because our female is a grazer. She likes to eat a few bites, walk around, and eat a few more bites. Because of that, we give her a little more time. (We joke that she's lady-like when it comes to eating, lol)

I have a long time friend of 25 years, and we are both pretty sure that Blue Buffalo caused health issues with his American Bulldog.
He had lots of skin issues with that dog that cleared up very fast when he switch to Acana.

I feed my dogs TOTW, and 4Health-WhiteFish and Potato.
Both are 4 star foods, and I have had good luck with them thus far.

I also agree that is sounds like she is just getting full.
For me personally, 6 cups a day for a 3 month old dog is too much. But I keep my pups a little on the slimmer side then some do. More importantly for dogs I own that are large breed dogs. There seems to be a correlation between growing a dog too fast, and too heavy, that seems to increase hips problems in adults. As well as stomach, and GI problems.
In my opinion.

Thanks for sharing this with me, I have started to feed my puppy twice a day now for the past 3 weeks. Seems to be doing okay. What you think about giving a puppy ice cream ? I had ice cream today and gave my puppy also but then started reading that its not good for dogs.

Ice Cream is high in sugar, and dairy. So I do not feed my dog any Ice Cream.
Its not that I think a little Ice-Cream would hurt the dog, because I dont.
But more so because I don't like when my dogs beg for food, pester house guests that eat over, or dig threw my trash. So, I keep "people" food down to a minimum with my dogs.

Again, its just my opinion. I am not pro.

As a dog owner your opinion matters. Thank you for your opinion.

They do make a special ice cream for dogs and I see it in our grocery store next to people ice cream. I try to stay away from giving them anything we're eating so they don't get in the habit of begging, but if it's just for then when you're not eating, I don't see a problem with giving them a little bit where ever they usually eat.

Gretchen loves ice! Maybe you can trick your dog and give it ice instead! I started putting crushed ice in their bowls to help my yorkie how has a collapsing trachea but it's hard to keep Gretchen from eating it all!

Our peke goes absolutely nuts over ice!

I don't know much about it since I've never fed it but from what I've read here on the Forum, there's been a lot of talk about problems with it. The other day I was at the Holistic place where I buy my dog food and I remembered to ask her about BB. I totally trust this woman in carrying good food and keeping up with any recalls or any other problems. As soon as I mentioned BB she said she doesn't carry any of their food. Too many 'issues' with it and recalls. She doesn't trust it at all so she won't carry it. That's all I needed to hear. :)
