My new pup was born Feb. 12!

I agree to leave them out for a few days. That runs the whole length of the ear so you couldn't really tape around it. It's not a long crop so it shouldn't set you back.

Thank you too! I'll wait it out. The other ear looks really nice but this one, I'm really happy to be getting advice to let it heal.

The one thing these two dobergirls have in common is thier willingness to be still to be posted. It's like they know...

Thank you so much! I'm really relieved to read this.
@MichiH I can identify. I've only done one doberman before this so I lack experience too. I also didn't remember similar sores on Katyusha so it's like what to do?
I feel like we always had an ear issue too and had a few days out of posts. Like @Ravenbird said let them heal up. You do have time and she does have a nice short crop. Lucky you! And her! You’re doing great @Katyusharocket!!!

While they're out of posts, take a damp Q-tip and gently clean all the gunk out of the ears so they are clean & fresh. The gunk can harbor and encourage bacteria when you tape them up.
Yup, I use the baby Q-tips (they're fatter than regular ones) soaked in Euclens ear cleaner and it cleans out all of the little crevices and canal very nicely.

Thanks guys! I used regular q tips for this go, and saline eye solution. I like the recommendations you gave but I couldn't get to a bigger city for a while so I had to use what was around for today. She was initially resistant to me running a q tip around in there but eventually settled so nicely I cleaned up the adhesive residue too. I think they look much better 20240518_162424.webp20240518_162410.webp

Glad you got them all cleaned up! She will smell nicer now too 😁

Next time you post I would put a cottonball between the post and the area I circled in yellow. If you look at the area in green that's a pocket and while yours aren't leaning in due to it, you can smooth the ear out and push the bump out with a cottonball so it looks nicer! The ears will likely stand straighter and less likely they'll flip over the head in the future.

Thank you. Is that something that would be continuous throughout her posting process? Or just like a time or two, watch and see type thing?

Just until the indent pops back out and there's no indent in the ear leather anymore! So only a few postings most likely 😊

We re-posted tonight. The time out of posts set us back psychologically, as she was back to squirming a little. @Rits , I ended up not using cotton balls, I tried, but a half a cottonball just looked dauntingly enormous for the ears I got. She's just a little squirt for her age with small ear crops too, but I'll keep trying that as she grows or just do it next time and maybe it'll turn out better than I think, plus she will hopefully hold still a little better.? If I get a decent photo in the next few days I'll share it. Right now she's sleeping so her ears are not in the upright forward position she would have them in outside.

Changed out posts today. I used 3m medipore tape this time and tried skipping the Torbot's glue.

@Rits I managed to get half a cotton ball behind each pocket to try to push those out, as those were still prominent after this previous posting. She fell asleep on my lap during the re-post. 🥰20240527_115416.webp

today was our first day without an accident inside the house. something may have clicked. yesterday was only 2 morning accidents. Relieving, probably more so for me than for her, but i'll take it.

Edit to add, going straight back to Torbot's glue and Zonas tape.. Medipore might be worthwhile, just not for Dobie posting.

I agree with all of that. We only get one chance at the ears and I want to use what's tried and true.

Yay! This is great news. Kinda crazy of when they finally get it, they get it.

So sorry that you had issues with the edges of the ears…that can be worrisome and frustrating for sure. But they look great now- keep up the good work.
