Congratulations on your new little guy! Like you I always had girl dogs, it was a personal preference. When girls bond with you it’s almost like a mother’s love, they are more serious and down to business in my experience than the boys. Now when I got Brinks my dobe gsd mix, I opted for a boy to better insure they would get along as adults. You will not be disappointed! He is very entertaining, silly, goofy, a big puppy but still very intelligent and what an athlete. He can get serious if he needs to be, but his carefree zest for life is infectious. They do mature slowly, he’s almost three which is when they start nearing the end of “puppyhood” and I can notice it. I believe he will always have a sense of goofiness but his features are filling out a bit and taking on a more chiseled edge. He has been a challenge to raise but I wouldn’t trade him for anything, and I certainly never have a worry in the world with him around.
I also have a five month old boy GSD who is an absolute love. He is much more biddable than my older male, but also smart and silly. I love my boys as much as my girl, despite of and maybe because of their differences.
I’ve also heard from more than one person involved with dogs that opposite sexes tend to bond better, such as I’m a girl so I should stick with male dogs but my female dog is my ride or die without a doubt!
I personally think dogs should be left natural, that surgeries for cosmetic purposes only should be forgone. I love my dogs ears and tails, I imagine they like them too!
