Been way too busy at work lately to spend much time on the forums but, I thought an update was well past due.
It's been a painful experience this summer for both Skittles and the family.
She got her cast off about 5 weeks ago and all was not well. Some of the pins that had been installed to hold the new bone around her knee moved out of place. The pins are interfering with her knee and prevents her from putting any weight at all on her left leg.
The surgeon actually thinks this is a good thing because it allows the bone to fully heal without any added stress from Skittles running and jumping.
Great for the bone but very frustrating for an active dog and her family having a completely useless but painful leg and unable to walk.
After five weeks of this Skittles went back in for X-ray's last Tuesday. Good news there. We could see solid bone at the repair sites This is what the doc was waiting for.
He's scheduled a third but, much more minor surgery on Oct 7th. He'll make some small incisions to pull the pins out of the bone. He feels really good about Skittles progress so far and still feels she'll make a full recovery.
It's hard being patient but, that's been his advice all along. We asked what happens if Skittles doesn't make a full recovery. He said he'd take her to the next specialist himself. He has confidence in a good and reassuring way. Still, it's hard being patient

I'm glad things are finally looking up and it does sound like you have a great vet.
