Humping

No parent likes to talk about it...
But Lily is 5 months now. (Wow) and Cain has started to hump Lily... So is this normal? She's not going into heat because my other intact male isn't paying any attention to her; right?

Is this an act of establishing a pecking order? An act of dominance on Cain's part?
He's sitting in his cage upstairs salivating, squealing and panting like a madman.

I don't want to cut him yet because of the health risks of neutering before 1 yr. he is currently 10 months. But I will if I have to..

It's normal :) she is too young to go into heat, but it still could be sexual on his end. It could also be him establishing dominance.

Having two intact OS dogs is challenging. You might have to crate and rotate if he won't leave her alone.

The joys of having a boy. I know Rex started showing more interest in girls around Cains age. @Archer she could go into heat around 6 months right? Taylor do you have a kennel to board Cain at for when Lily has her first heat if you're leaving him intact longer?

Os this gonna be an all the time thing...? Because it's driving me insane. He doesn't listen to anything. Crating and rotating is no way for dogs to live in my opinion...

Yes I have a kennel on hand. This is crazy. He's acting like a maniac!
[DOUBLEPOST=1424487507][/DOUBLEPOST]My question is that she's only 5 months though.. Why is he showing this sort of behavior? It would surely be dominance... He won't quit licking her snatch. He's savilating everywhere. And she's scared to death of him.

5 months is too young for her to go into heat. Six months is the earliest I have heard of in a larger breed and that is even young. Dobermans are typically 8-12 months. It is hard to say if it's going to be something that happens all the time or not, but it will get worse when she does go into heat.

I don't like crate and rotate either, but it's a short term option right now to give them a little time apart

He's a boy and his hormones are gearing up (think human teenager). I think @Dobie Wan Knobie has both his male and female intact. Maybe he can give some insite to you situation.
I'm pretty sure he had Jedi boarded when Cocoa was in heat. We have several members with OS intact dogs that I am sure can offer good advice.

Thanks Archer :) I thought 6 months was on the young end (with it normally being later) but I wasnt 100% sure the average age for a Doberman. My past females were all spayed around the 6 month age so we never went through a heat cycle.

Well Denali is 5 months and he has tried humping both male and female dogs [emoji30]

When she is not in heat he will mount her once and awhile, like he is practicing his skills, but she will sometimes mount him as she wants to be the alpha. But this is totally different from when she is in her heat. That is a totally different thing. The male becomes the wolfman at that point, and you better have some strong kennels ready, or someplace to keep him, for that craziness can't be turned off.
