How much time away is good for a puppy.

Hey guys. It’s been a great week and a half with Drako but now I’m afraid he’s a tad bit attached and wants to be with me a lot. I have him sleep in his very cozy AC ventilated cage with a bed and emergency potty pad. He’s been good with his potty and is very good in there when im around but let me be gone for 2 minutes and he’s screaming. I’ve dealt with this in my old dog (RIP) and it took a year but she was not a puppy and that was my first time with a dog. With drako being a puppy I know we can work on this easier so I’m setting up a schedule for him and school. I have a lot of time for him with my job being WFH so no worries there but I think that’s the issue. I wanted tips on balance and how long you guys would leave your pup home for them to be comfortable in there crate for a decent time.

I started with Sasha being put into her crate for regular nap times..mid morning, afternoon and at night. We expected her to get along approx 1 hr for every month old she was ie approx. 3 hrs max for a 3 month old pup. Then potty break right away after leaving crate. They, by nature, want to be with you all the time. That said, we started with 2 crates, 1 in living room and 1 in our bedroom. She will learn.

They will scream their head off at first and you have to ignore it. I don't make eye contact or acknowledge it until they are calm and quiet. We have started feeding our pups in the crate when they first came home and make it a positive place. It takes a bit of time but they figure out that it is their safe haven.

It is good that you're paying attention to this already because a Doberman with separation anxiety is no joke especially once they are fully grown and powerful enough to chew through your house 😆 Crate training is a good way to build up his tolerance.
