Help for a family member

Hey guys how y'all doing?

We moved in nicely and Hades loves the new place, he's so much happier now.

We have not had internet in a long time to really pop on, we still need to add a proper fence to the guardian as it did have those 90's green mesh fences and that was taken out, so at the moment we have to leash him in the guardian.

But onto the topic at hand.

My mum contacted me saying her dog (whippet X lab) mouthed someone and is in a lot of distress right now and has no clue what to do, the situation is quite difficult. But it apparently agent like this.

The post woman knocked on the door and my mum opened it to take the mail and what not, Toby (her dog) bolted it out the door and made a brake for freedom.

He stumbled upon a woman and went to play with her, he's a year old so very much puppy energy is there, Toby got rather excited and sounds like from what she has told me started to play mouthe.

My mum did not see as she was still catching up to him at this point.

But my mum got to him an I'm not sure what exchange went on exactly. But the lady in question said that she was not scared more was the skin broken.

The following morning police were at her door asking for her details and that someone would be in touch.

I've met Toby alot and he is definitely very bouncy being X whippet he was a rescue so I did suggest perhaps use them as some kind or reference?

I'm not sure what she can really do in this situation as she was not there to see it her self so something could have been fabricated.

Any help for me to forward back onto her is much appreciated, she's so worried she's going to loose him...

Well that's too bad and if he was just doing the puppy like mouthing, some people take it the wrong way. I'm not sure how you'd handle the situation but hopefully others will chime in shortly.

I'm glad your move went well and that Hades is liking it.

Does your Mother known the person in question? If so, it would be best to try and deal with the situation face to face, if that's possible. Let her explain that it was a pure accident. No harm was meant and that your Mum will make precautions so this doesn't happen again (i.e closing the dog in another room before opening the front door) She may of done this already, idk. On the other hand, its sometimes advisable not to enter into too detailed conversation with the 'victim' as your mums comments could be construed as admitting liability. It's difficult to know which way to swing without knowing more details.

She called the police...so, what's she after? Hmm...

So the person in question was not afraid but the dog drew blood through mouthing? Is that it? How did she know where your mother lived? I guess they may of swapped details at the time of the incident.

Your Mum can get a behaviourist to do an assessment, it shows that she's being proactive. She can seek legal advice too, if she feels it necessary.

Remember, the police CANNOT tell you or force you to put the dog down, only a court can do that. Hopefully, she'll just receive a warning.

I'm hopeful that this can be resolved amicably. Please keep us updated.

I sure will, I forwarded this onto her.

I thought that too, if she's not scared why report it? Especially if no blood was drawn seems to me she's out to cause trobble as the people in that area is where I grew up and they are nasty...

Ill let you know what happens from here

An acquaintance of mine (wouldn't call her a friend as I don't know her very well) has a female Rottweiler. She took her to the dog park and she had an altercation with another dog. Like Dobermanns, Rots get the short end of the stick so the other owner blamed her and her Rot. I wasn't there so I don't know what really happened.
Anyway long story short, the law around here is after 1 bite the dog has to be confined for a week. She wasn't allowed to take her Rot off of her property - but just for 1 week. That was it.
I don't understand the law or how the confinement is supposed to do anything but it was no big deal for her.

Wow I've never seen that before.
I know that time a hotel accidentally gave my room to someone else after I was checked in, I had left Della in there while I ran out for something and that's when the second person went in. She said Della just sat on the bed and looked at her (she was a UKC judge) but if it was Albert, it could have been a different story. Anyway, in that town if a dog bites for any reason, even if it's the other party's fault, they automatically quarantine them in the cities confinement and I would have been beside myself because it's over 100 miles from home.

I wonder if the quarantine period is for the purposes of making sure the dog isn't sick...like with rabies? Even spending one week stuck at home seems like it's to determine whether the dog develops something.
