"Final step" of ear posting

Hi everyone,

I got a few questions regarding the "final" ear posting steps.
I've posted about my girls ears before (she had to had the flame removed on one ear).

Well, shes now 7 months and 1 week old and I took the advice I received and will keep her posted until she reaches 7 1/2 months, just to make sure all teeth are in.

Now that its only about one more week until we'll finally be done posting I got two questions:

1. her right ear stands and has been standing perfectly solid from base to tip since she was barley 6 months old, but her left ear tip (about 1 inch) is still a bit wiggly - it doesnt fold over or anything, the tip just wiggles when she walks/runs, otherwise the ear is just as solid as the other one.
If its just the very tip that wiggles is it fine if I start using breathe right strips when she's 7 1/2 months? Or should I keep the full ear posted for a bit longer?

2. someone once replied on my other post that if my pup sleeps on her bend ear for 1 hour that this can permantly damage the cartilage and she'll have a permanent fold in her ear.
At what age will this not be a risk anymore? When the ear is completly solid? If I use a breathe right strip in the ear tip thats still a bit wiggly can this still happen? I'd love some more information about this, because I really had enough trouble with my girls ears :grimacing:

I'll attach a couple of pics of my pups ears, although you cant really see anything since they stand well, but I think no one will be mad about some puppy pics :blush:

They look really good and the cartilage doesn't look too thick so you could definitely try the breathe rights. If the strips weigh them down enough to make them droop, you still need posts. The tips are the last thing to firm up so that's why so many go to breathe rights.

That's mostly for when they're young and still teething so at 7.5 months you should be good.

It looks to me as though they are up....if that tip doesn't get "wilty" as I call it, when she is just hanging around, I would say they are up :thumbsup:
We had a boy who would get a wilty ear when he was tired, but it never fell. Just the tip would get droopy, and pop right back up when he was rested.
 
Hi everyone, it’s me again with another question 🫣
I noticed that her ears are being weighed down a tiiiiiny but by the strips, they’re not droopy but not as pin straight as they usually are. Is that normal? Because her ears usually stick up pin straight and only one tip wiggled a bit while walking, even when out of the posts for an entire day, so I thought they would 100% be ready for the strips.

I noticed that they were straighter when she was rested this morning compared to when she was sleepy yesterday evening

What you y’all think? Back into posts? Or is this a normal thing? Should I maybe do a bridge to hold the tips up better?
 
The strips will weigh them down a bit but her ears are still nice and erect so I think it's fine. Usually once they're done with the strips they'll go back to being real straight.
 
I think they look fantastic!!

The ears will take the weight and learn/mold to be strong.

My only concern would be sleeping on a bent ear.
 
Ehhh….all depends where the ear cartilage hardening is in the entire process really. Some Dobermans harden early- some late. Both of mine were done at 7.5 except for the top 1/4 tips were flippy.

At 7.5months and by the looks in your pictures, those ears look great to me.

Just want you to be aware that if you see her sleeping on a bent ear….not be OMG OCD, but I would straighten.

Ok thank you! Her ears luckily are almost completely solid besides the very tip of one ear that still wiggles when she walks (now not anymore since she’s wearing the strips 😊)
 
Yes I went to strips at 7.5-8months because of tips being flippy. Even at 8 their tips were still flippy and I got to where I liked it actually and let them ride w/o strips. Both Dobermans ear tips hardened and straightened by 9months.
