Exercise

So last night Vader was itching to go for a run, but I wrestled with him and played with a tug rope instead. It took over 2 hours before he started to get close to being tired :(

I play 2 ball with my dogs and throw in s few obedience behavior to cap drive. Or just lay some 400-500 yard tracks. Tracking really wears them out, big mental stimulation.

Time for a dumb question: What's tracking? Is this like scent tracking...hide and seek with bits of food?
Yep, tracking is nosework – having your dog find things or people by scent in the air or on the ground. Tracking is one of the three components of Schutzhund and IPO work.

It's fun stuff. I had my first Dobe trained to find money and I have a video of him finding my single apartment key I threw out into a soccer field.

I teach Schutzhund tracking which is footstep tracking. The dog follows the scent left by a tracklayers footsteps to find different articles. The articles are approx. 3"X1" and can be different materials. Most commonly used are Wood, leather and carpet. Tracks range from 300 paces with 2 corners and 2 articles to larger tracks 1600 paces 7 corners cross tracks by other people. They can go from short to tall grass, standing water, across gravel or asphalt roads etc...

Find money! What a funny AND functional idea. Now tell me, how much money did you have to retrieve from his poop! ;) Actually, knowing you, your Dobe probably never put anything from public places into his mouth. K is finally getting better about this.
