Wondering if anyone is part of a Doberman Walking Group? My husband and I joined a local(ish) walking group and regularly meet up for walks with other Dobie and Rotweiller lovers. Honestly, it's like Dobie heaven when they are all together. What a sight

Love this last one of Kobi! This was his very first group walk and seeing as he was so little he did a fantastic job. Just trotted on besides the big girls and boys.

I must say I do look forward to our walks and there's normally always a new dobie pup to cuddle.

Looks like a great time! We only have 3 other Doberman's in the area and one of them is antisocial and has issues. We do go for regular walk/runs with the other 2 though.

I've been invited on quite a few general dog walks for either benefits or parades, but they're always so far away that I haven't gone.

Aw, what a sight! They look stunning :)

But yes, I would imagine it would be such a trek for you whereas the UK is teeny tiny it's so easy to meet up with dobie lovers within the same county.

We will travel as far as 100 miles for a group it's pretty awesome. And of course you get to see some new and wonderful places that you wouldn't normally get the chance to visit. Kobi loves the car journeys so it's never a problem.

They are scarce here in Metro Detroit too!! I saw ONE a year ago with his owner walking past my house...wish I would have stopped them to chat. Haven't seen any since. :(

I was parked on a street this morning and a vehicle pulled up next to me at a stop sign. I was surprised that there was a sticker in the window with a Doberman and some kids saying "my Doberman is part of the family too". Maybe there are a couple more than I realized.

how nice to have other Dobies in your area!!.. I have not seen a single one in Birmingham, though I know there are some. We try to get out and about with our dogs as much as possible. It would be nice to see another Doberman,,,Heck, we dont even see any other Beagles! (our other dog) Your guy is very handsome!

How common is a Doberman as a pet where you live?
The breed used to be more popular here in Maine according to people who tell me they used to have them.
I think it's the same story here. When I go to the vet or training, people say they either know people who used to have them or they used to breed them. I have a feeling it wasn't isn't in the right way.

I love the idea of group Doberman walks! :) We see a beautiful red girl when we are at the off leash dog park regularly but other than that I only see them around occasionally. I get lots of compliments on Luna and I think part of the reason is because you don't see them that often.

I did see a beautiful 1 year old Doberman / Boxer cross today. He had a solid reddish brown colour with a Dobie body and half boxer half Dobe face. Does that count? :D

Yeah, doesn't count :)

Actually, at our dog park there is a woman who says her dog is a Doberman/Boxer mix. Not so sure about that though.

Most of the Dobermans I see out there near me are uncropped, but docked. FYI.

I actually see a lot more Dobes here in Cincinnati than any other place I've lived. As I have said, I chalk it up to the strong German culture of this town. But Dobermans are still quite far from common here.

I was going to mention the breeding along with the "I used to have Dobermans" thing, but I have the feeling that the breeding wasn't being done the right way either. Those were the bad old days. If people think we have a pet population and euthanasia problem now, they don't remember the 1970s. Here's a statistic: "The number of animals euthanized each year has decreased dramatically over the past four decades, from some 20 million in 1970 to about 3 million in 2011. Meanwhile, the number of pets has more than doubled since the 1970s, to about 160 million dogs and cats."
People back then used to breed a female just to make her more safe around kids and because they wanted their kids to experience the miracle of birth. It was ridiculous. I have to thank Bob Barker (Yes, from The Price Is Right) for bringing the spay and neuter message mainstream, and Drew Carey is carrying on the tradition of closing the show with the message to get your pets spayed or neutered.

In a small radius of 5 miles I know of 5 dobermans. When we meet up on a local Doberman group walks we are looking at roughly 12-15 dobes. Those owners live within 30 miles approx to me. I found the group on Facebook ( the only decent thing on that site, IMO lol) so I'm sure that there are many, many more.

The one I saw was the perfect mix. The dam is a red Dobe and this showed in the hair colour. He is a beautiful dog. I really like some of the Dobie and Rottweiler mixes (especially the ones that look more like the Doberman). One of my favourite Dobe mixes I've seen so far though is a Dobie and Pitbull rescue by the name of Gypsy. She lives close to my cottage but she and Luna haven't met yet. We'll see how that goes when it happens. Gypsy has free run outside during the day and she's been over to my property a few times which is about a mile away. I'm curious to see if Luna will get territorial if a strange dog comes onto our property like she owns it. The immediate neighbour's young German Shepherd comes over to my cottage when she knows we're there (although she's not supposed to! lol) but they already know each other and love to play with each other so that hasn't been an issue. I'm actually surprised the number of dogs near my cottage that are let out to run around wherever they want during the day. I'd be afraid to do that. I'd especially be afraid that Luna would accidentally get shot.

That's amazing! My vet only had 2 other Doberman clients, and they were owned by one person. The Labrador Retriever is #1 around here in Maine. Other popular breeds are German Shorthaired Pointers, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Pomeranians, and Chihuahuas.
