Doberman average life span

Thank you and to @GennyB for your kind words.
I’m sure mom is hurt too but she returned home to Portugal after I came back from my trip and I intend to connect with her as soon as I feel better.

I know you prob did not take it this way but I did not mean to focus on your mom and make light of your feelings and loss.

It is very very hard. I lost my 15y/o lab last year and it crushed me for a while. I have yet to let his ashes fly, they are still on my night stand.

They are hard to let go, so very special to us. Keep moving on, one foot each day; time and the special memories will help soothe until you are ready for a new joy, a new meddlesome worry to corrupt and grace your life.

Know that others have been there and are thinking of you and your situation.

I lost my baby Sherry just last week to probably GDV (bloat). She has had two episodes of bloat in the last 2 years and I knew all about her condition and was doing everything in my power to prevent it 24/7. But I went on a ski trip last week and left her with my mom whom I instructed very well about how to take care of her and how to recognize any sign of bloat. But she didn’t. She found Sherry dead one morning and her belly was swollen so I can only assume it was GDV.
I’m shattered and cannot get over the guilt of leaving on this trip and over the (unfair) angriness towards my mom who didn’t save her despite how much I trained her.
I have never seen Sherry again...
Exactly 1 month prior, on the same date, I said goodbye to my other baby, a german shepard of 10 yo that I had put to sleep due to complications from lung cancer.
Oh, I'm sorry to hear of your loss!

The same basic thing happened to me with my previous Doberman. I had to travel to my wife's Grandfather's funeral. I get a call from the boarding kennel saying he's at the vet with bloat. I left specific instructions to be careful about drinking water (even though he had not prior shown any signs of ever getting bloat). I feel they disregarded my instructions.

The strange thing is my Dobe before him died from heart failure/DCM while being boarded. We were visiting my Grandmother who was declining. I feel my instructions were disregarded in that case too.

I am so sorry to hear!
We had to put Tiger down on Feb. 11. I still cannot get over it. We have his ashes in a beautiful white urn in the home office. Every time I look at it, I am ready to cry or do end up crying.

Do any of you have any experience with Wobbler Syndrome in dobermans? if so, were you able to help your baby? how?

I'm so sorry for your loss. We all understand your heartache. If you feel up to it you can add Tiger in the Memorial thread and maybe post some pictures. You did the best you could for him and he was loved!

RIP Tiger

I'm so sorry to both of you on your losses. :sorrow:
