If this needs to be move to an appropriate section, please do so. I'm so disgusted this just looked like a good place to post it.

I am trying to help someone find info regarding extensive case of Demodex Mange (red mange). She is in Tennessee. Her Dobe is just 9 mo old and they have tried everything to try to get this under control. This poor puppy's face is so swollen, she looks like she's 15 yrs old. The so called breeder will not do anything to assist these people, won't take their calls or reply to their emails.
They are not looking to place this dog, I am trying to find them some assistance in Tennessee. Even if it's just low cost vet care so they can trying something (anything) else the vet might be able to think of.

I've never dealt with Special Needs Dobermans. Is that maybe an avenue they could check into?
I am waiting on confirmation from this person to give her contact info via PM, but in the meantime, I would be glad to pass along anything that might be helpful.

Pam all I can do is ask around, is it ok if I post his on other dog boards??

SND is a pretty nice group, they are helping dela with her bloat bill, they gave $300 at first, and say they are going to try to raise the rest of the funds.

As for the demodex, we got a rescue pup that had it BAD... so bad she had no hair on her head and it was so scabbed up that if she thought... and wrinkled her head... it would bleed between the cracks on top of her head :( the owner was told just to do a sulfur wash...for two months, nothing happened.. then when we got her, our vet just started the invermectin from the get go as well as anti biotics... she is not a 100% yet but looks way better... this is now 3 months or so later.

Fate got a bump on her side... and maybe a touch of something around her eye.. NO THANK YOU!! invermectin from the get go! only perk is that while she is on that she dont need heartworm.

Thanks JST. I just checked it out, and they are actually labelling ProMeris for Demodectic Mange! Let's hope this is one of those things they haven't tried yet and it works.

Still waiting for approval to give out her info and I asked if I could post pics or the dog also. I've invited her here, so hopefully she'll pop in herself.

This is 9 mo old Sophia.
They are over $1000 in treatments, and have not been able to get this under control yet.

Sophia is a very loving girl, and her family loves her dearly. I sent her the info on the ProMeris, and she is checking into it.

As this case does not personally or directly involve me, I cannot mention the so called breeder's name. As a third party, it is considered hear-say and can be construed as slander. But.... if you'd like to contact this owner directly, she can (and would gladly) share that info with you. Her MySpace page is: http://www.myspace.com/407235553

Unfortunately, Sophia's mother is probably due to be bred AGAIN any time now. (9 month old pups + 2 months gestation... so probably a Valentine litter). If she is bred again, other families will more than likely face this same disaster. I am going to try to get her to post in the Buyer Beware section.

OH DEAR GOD!!!! Oh, that poor thing! Someone's GOT to help her!!! And the breeder won't HELP??? That's insane!!!! I can't even type I'm so mad!

No, the greeder will not take or return their calls, will not reply to their emails, nothing. Unfortunately, the state the pup was bought in does not have the Puppy Lemon Law.

An absolute outrage Pam,the breeders should be taking a part responsibility or full. You can see the poor animal is suffering and the vet bills will just escalate.I don't know what to say..i just wish i could help!

Hopefully the ProMeris that JST recommended will help. It's a shame any dog has to endure this. Like I said, it will continue if this breeder continues to breed this female.

Bless her heart. I am not sure if its ok to post links (I apologize in advance if I am wrong).. but I saw a Doberman in rescue that had a similar case. Maybe the owner could email to see what corse of action they took. The before and after pictures are incredible. I wish them all the best.

GCDR-Dober "Ladies

scroll down, you will see the little pup I am referring to.

OMG that poor baby....Please tell her our thoughts and prayers are with her and Sophia. I just find it so hard that a breeder could turn their back on this......

Because it's transmitted from the mom? Does that mean the mom is this bad looking too or just like a 'carrier' or something? I know nothing of this mange. :dunno: but this is so heartbreaking I can barely look at her! I just find it so hard to understand someone walking away from this, especially a breeder....and I use the term breeder, lightly!

MB.. this is what I found online...Demodectic mange is caused by a microscopic mite of the Demodex genus. All dogs raised normally by their mothers possess this mite as mites are transferred from mother to pup via cuddling during the first few days of life. Most dogs live in harmony with their mites, never suffering any consequences from being parasitized. If, however, conditions change to upset the natural equilibrium (such as some kind of suppression of the dog's immune system), the Demodex mites may "gain the upper hand." The mites proliferate and can cause serious skin disease.

My Penny had Demodex when she was a pupp and she got it from her mother it is passed from mother to pups, actually 3 out of th e7 pups had it and 4 out of the 7 got Parvo and all survived and are way to happy but the cases were not this severe. Just breaks my heart to have to look at this.
