That’s the part that really sticks with me. Extinction doesn’t just erase a species from the family tree; it can wipe out an entire way of living that evolution spent millions of years shaping. A tree-climbing dog sounds almost impossible now. That’s a pretty sobering reminder of how much life has disappeared without leaving anything behind except fossils.
