Cropped and Docked Dobermans in the UK

Ok, so i just got a reply from Slobodan at Betelges. He is the first breeder to get back to me although being the last person i contacted.
I'm sure you'll be happy with Slobodan and Betelges. If you want to pursue LiparLand, we can talk in PM. I can forward your information to Vera or ask her to contact you. I did see Vera and Goran were traveling the last few days so they may be busy.

Sounds a little like Obama health care act. You must pass it before you read it.
No confidence building there!
If the breeders the brokers use were above reproach, they wouldn't have an issue with revealing them. IMO
Unless, they felt they would lose a commission on the sale but still, not enough reason to be secretive.

I've filled out the contact form on their website, i'll just wait for a response. If they're busy that's fine, i'm in no rush I'm just interested pricing what transportation options they offer at the moment.

I worked out it would roughly be a 3400 mile round trip if i was to drive and pick him (I would like a boy) up which would cost about £400/511 Euro in fuel alone. So in total he would cost 2500+ euro which for me is a lot of money and i have never spent more than that on anything other than my house and car, he would certainly be an investment.

How did you go about selecting Drogon? Did you do it from images, video or just get what you was given?

Images, pedigree, images and video of the sire & dam, and interaction with the breeder (Vera). For me it came down to Altobello or LiparLand. IMHO their dog's appearance and pedigrees are pretty much equivalent. Vera just won me over by being so involved and personable.

I have to agree there and I've talked to her quite a bit too when our friends were getting a pup from them. She is a busy lady and they travel for shows all the time, but she does take time to respond as long as she has service.

You know we talked about UK and Europe doberman rescue....They updated with this today and thought i'd share it here as they do such an amazing job rescuing these poor, defenceless beautiful dobes from endless suffering in European countries...

Meet Czar, rescued from Crete last year. As you can see he was found in a terrible, desperate state. But with time, dedication, love and of course money (that we all as members donate to the cause) he is now thriving. Warms my heart to see the transformation :)

I see they are in Italy today. I think for a show this weekend. You may try her on FaceBook. Facebook

Hi,
I'm afraid most of this post may come across as a bit harsh....oh well.
I too looked into getting a docked and cropped Doberman from Europe, this was back in 2013. Back then they were only begining to be imported in numbers, I assume due to changes in legislation.
At the time I was seduced by the look as it was what I was brought up with. After visiting an importer (Altobello dogs etc) in Dover, Kent and speaking to him a few times, my main concerns were these:
You loose the opportunity to see the parents.
You loose the opportunity of having a breeder pick a puppy from the litter to suit your needs.
You end up with a puppy that should be at least 16 weeks old, therefore missing out on some vital periods of the puppys development.
You could end up with a puppy with too much "edge" for the enviroment you intend to keep him in.
The importer told me that he sent dogs back because he felt they would not fit in to a UK family pet enviroment.
If you think about the cost, a Doberman from a decent UK kennel will cost you say £1,200, so £2,000 for an imported dog seems cheap!
The same importer has since stopped bringing them into this country since too many people now seem to be able to offer these dogs for about £1,500 these days.
Over the past few years I have come into contact with some imported dogs and while some were ok (although too big in my opinion) others were indeed a bit "full on".
I ended up buying Sophie from a breeder in Wales (not a puppy farm!), she can be a handfull, but is basically very sweet natured.
Too many of these imported dogs appear for sale on UK websites with comments like "lovely dog but I dont have the time to give him the attention he needs".
I think there was a guy on here (Davis?) who bought a dog from Betelgees around the same time as I got Sophie.
I have seen the UKDOBERMANS website, my advice would be go visit them and see the dogs they have.
If this is your first Doberman then remember this:
"A Doberman is not for everyone, in fact they are for hardly anyone"

I can definitely say i am not going through UKDobermans, i don't like their policies and when i questioned them, they did not reply.
I am aware about the age the puppy would be by the time it is imported which is why buying from a trustworthy breeder is essential as you know it will have been socialized a decent amount. The decision to get a Doberman is a joint one by me and my partner therefore double the effort will go into its upbringing.

It would be useful to get the experience of someone who has dealt with Betelges first hand. If the username comes to mind i would appreciate it if could tell me. Thanks.

I'm currently waiting for a response from Tahi-Reme who has had good reports from everyone i have spoken with.

I picked my boy up from the airport right around 16 weeks. I didn't find any issues missing out on the early puppy development. We bonded pretty quickly. It seemed that at first he looked on my as rescuing him from the shock of the long flight. If anything I'd say it was easier on me because he was house broken in only a few days. Also his crop was already healed and posted for the first time. So there are both pros and cons IMHO

I assume that UK Dobermans dont want to give out too much info in case you choose to go direct to the breeder rather than throught them!!
The user name of the guy on here was "Davis", you can search for what appears to be his last post on here back in July 2014, I am happy for someone to let me know otherwise.......
I too contacted Betelges (in 2013) and basically if you bought from him He used to bring the pup to Calais (France) and you meet him there. I liked his website and the tour of the Kennels!

I'm sure if you do your homework things are fine, but here in the UK we are getting a lot of dogs (all breeds) being brought into the country from Europe, in the backs of vans, just for the money. A few years ago there was at TV documentary on the subject and one of the drop off points was a motorway service station a few miles away from where I live!

Oh, and if you are bored one day Google "Rie Kizuka" go to the You Tube link and you can see Sophies life (from about 8 weeks old) in video :D
This is her with 2 imports!

So i just wanted to add some more info to this thread regarding transportation costs.

A user who hasn't posted here sent me a PM who obviously is not a fan of Slobodan or his kennel. This particular user believes Slobodan rips off people who buy from him and one way he does this is charging 500 euros to transport the puppy to Calais. He/she said several airlines can do it for much less, specifically British Airways so i decided to do a bit of research into this.

After several emails, i got the information that Sky Master (British Airways' partner who deal with pet transport) cannot import from Serbia (Unassisted).
I continued my research by contacting Lufthansa, asking for a quote to again transport a pet unassisted from Belgrade to the UK (Preferably Manchester). Lufthansa used to transport to Manchester but apparently no longer do and London, Heathrow is the only option.

I was quoted the following:

Kennel size 1 - dims up to 61x51x47 eur 660,00

Kennel size 2 - dims up to 87x57x60 cm eur 739,00

Kennel size 3 - dims up to 104x73x75 cm eur 939,00

So to conclude, 500 Euro is very reasonable.

I may still look into the costs involved if i was to fly to Belgrade myself and bring the puppy back as additional cargo, the rough pricing Lufthansa show on the website quote for size Medium (60 x 45 x 40 cm) 100 euro and i can get a return ticket from Manchester to Belgrade for under 300 euro.

It does sound like a broker. IMHO while many brokers don't offer much value, some do. I could see this being the case trying to import a cropped and docked into a country where it is no longer performed. Going through a broker may also give you different legal rights since the broker is in the same country. For example, if you sent your money directly to an EU breeder and then they didn't send you the same dog it may be difficult for any recourse against the breeder in that EU country.
@CoopsTHC you'll want to research and speak with them before any commitments. See if they will provide you with the pedigree and breeder information. If they won't then I would look somewhere else. Their pics are of some very good looking Dobes, IMHO.

That being said, I imported my Dobe from LiparLand in Serbia. I also went through a broker but the broker gave me the option of working directly with the kennel (breeder) - LiparLand or he would. I chose to work directly with LiparLand and the process was pretty simple. I can certainly recommend them and I can only assume they've also exported to England.[/QUOT
Hi DC,

My name is Jack. I have been interested in bringing a Doberman into my family for a few weeks now and am researching the breed as well as how i would acquire a cropped and docked Doberman in the UK. I am not looking to purchase one right now, it would be several months, maybe a year from now as i want to be sure this is the breed for me however i am intrigued by the import process.

That said, my question/s is aimed at all cropped and docked Doberman owners in the UK:

Did you have yours Imported?

If Yes, which breeder did you choose?
If No, where did you get it from in the UK?

Also, i have seen this website popping up a lot: ukdobermans co uk. The website is very nice and it does have a fairly extensive amount of info on the breed. Are they a reputable provider? Has anyone had any first hand experience with them?

Any help on the above is much appreciated, i understand this forum seems to be mainly US based so if i'm asking in the wrong place it would be appreciated if you could direct me to somewhere that could better help me.

Kind regards,
Jack.

Hi Jack I'm wanting to know all the same answers to the questions your asking as I'm looking in to at cropped and docked Doberman, have you found out anymore info about any known good breeders yet? Thanks.

Hi everyone , I was just wondering if i was to get a dog imported does it have to be in quarantine if so how long would my dog not be aloud home and where do they keep them?

kind regards
