Coconut Oil

I've been ordering Trader Jack's Coconut Oil for quite some time now..... 16 oz jars $12 + shipping....

I'm not a big fan of Walmart, but every time I check to see if they have the specific coconut oil, it's usually "refined". Today I found Tropical Life Organic, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Unrefined, Expeller Pressed" (description on the back does say 'COLD PRESSED'). 29 oz jar $11 ... Because Walmart seems to be one of those 'have it today and never see it again' with some items, I grabbed 4 jars!!!

I know not all locations carry the same products, but if any of you use Coconut Oil... check to see if your local Walmart has it. Just thought I'd pass along my 'find of the day'! :D

Our Walmart super store is stocking more and more of it these days. I was buying it in the organic section at the grocery store but it is pretty pricey there.

How exactly do you use the coconut oil? Rub it right on or add to the food??
Some people do both. I think some also mix it with some water and put it in a spray bottle so they can spray it on for better coverage. I can't remember the ratio now though.

Never did the spray bottle. Would think you would have to add a lot of water. Because Coconut oil will only melt to a liquid at around 75-76deg.

How loose are the stools when feeding this? I think a little would be good, but the article says to work up to a tsp per 10lbs of dog per day. A tsp of coconut oil per 10lbs of dog body weight seems like a ton of oil in a diet to me.

Yes work up to it like with any supplementing! Each dog is different. You might not get to the full amount anyway.

Just was at Costco today now they have an 84oz jar for $17.99

That is what we got the last time. That's a big jar! I personally prefer the old ones, 2 smaller jars. But you can't beat the price!

I use 50/50 ration with oil and purified water. Shake well and spritz on their skin after bathing while they are still damp and use a zoom groom to massage it in.

I do this too. Sometimes I put it in an old shampoo bottle and pour it on like a leave in cream rinse. We love our zoom groom!

A couple of years ago I tried some in water to spray on the dogs/horses but the dang thing always hardened up! How do you keep it liquid? I mean, I know it hardens in lower temps but geez, I think it was like that all summer too.
