Coconut Oil

A couple of years ago I tried some in water to spray on the dogs/horses but the dang thing always hardened up! How do you keep it liquid? I mean, I know it hardens in lower temps but geez, I think it was like that all summer too.

Hmm....interesting. I've never had that problem. I started doing this several years ago because cf Greta. Interesting coat challenges there. I was determined she was going to be the best she could be. ;)
I never really measure how much coconut oil, just put a couple good spoonfuls in some water, shook it up and used it like a leave on conditioner at first. I don't even remember why I decided too try a spray bottle but it worked great.

I tried it through a suggestion here on DCF. I'll have to try it again and show a pic if I have trouble again.
Should not be hardening in summer. Melting point which coconut oil starts to melt is 76 deg.
I know. I didn't get it either. Seems to me it never was completely liquid.

No joke, it's 87 degrees in my house right now and my jar of coconut oil is only partially melted. If it's not atleast 80, mine stays solid as well???? I've never even tried mixing it with water for that very reason. I'm going to now though, just to see. I usually end up just smeering some on the dogs (for all the good that does as they just lick it off of themselves/each other LOL) or use one of the horse "shine" sprays (it seems to help with the labs dry/flakey skin). I more use it on Kaizer because it smells decent and helps repel dust (living on a main road = maaajor dust).
